He definitely has a lot of knowledge about the topics and is an interesting guy, but he is a horrible professor. Very hard grader and very subjective to what he thinks is the right thesis. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS, it wasn't worth the hassle.

I don't know what some of the other posters are talking about. MacCubbin was a great professor with a vast amount of knowledge about the subject. He even invited the class to his annual keileh (sp?) at his house. Great professor, nice guy, and I think W&M was a better school when he was a prof.

He is HORRIBLE!!! STAY AWAY. He is uncoherent, extremely unapproachable, and an amazingly BAD teacher. He doesn't care about his students, just that he has a job.

STAY AWAY. Maccubin is a total jerk. The class isn't that hard, but grading is pretty arbitrary, the material's not as interesting as you'd expect, the class had no focus, and the professor is the biggest **** I have ever met. He is insulting, slimy, and one of the worst professors I have ever had.

Maccubbin is a very interesting lecturer who really brings out unconventional things in books. Even things that you've already read get a new twist when he talks about them. He's a hard but good/fair grader - one of few outstanding English teachers still out there, and unfortunately, he's gone now.

Very nice guy, if a bit of a flake (he told us he once left his baby at the office). Gives unconventional paper assignments that make you think. Can be a tough and somewhat random grader, but will go out of his way to help you.

Great lecturer. One of the best profs in the English Dept and really knows what he's talking about. Extremely tough grader on papers (harder than Wiggins), but he'll accept a portfolio of other papers to look at and give suggestions for your writing.
