Comment:
He is there for his students but he is not very clear at all when it comes to lectures. He rushes through his notes and only writes down less than half of what he says. Tests are definitely tough but he does try and give you as many points as he can on the short answers. I personally wouldn't take his class again.

He was an amazing guy! I failed O. Chem in Spring and got a B in his SUMMER class. He is so clear with his explanations. Going to class is essential because he tests from the notes. I never would have expected to do well in this class after failing so miserably but he helped me through it. He's totally approachable and I highly recommend him.

I thought that Dr Rennels did an AWESOME job teaching Organic Chem. I had him last summer for both Ochem semesters and thought he did a wonderful job! Very approachable and kind. His method of synthesis and mechanism problems was very clear! I recommend him to anyone having to take Ochem! He truly enhanced my interest in chemistry!

I had Dr. Rennels for o-chem 241 and 242 during the summer. It was an extremely hard class. But Dr. Rennels was extremely fair and approchable. He to tried to get you to understand o-chem. I left his class with a complete understanding of the fundamentals of o-chem. The grade I got in his class was a reflection of how much I put into the class

He was alright, however towards the end of the semester he kept showing up late. His lectures are straight from his notes, I think he should just photocopy them and hand them out. I also had him for OchemII lab, he was a lot easier there. And I agree w/the ppl above, DO NOT TAKE SYLVESTER'S CLASS. He talks so slow,we were in lab forthe whole3hrs!

He was perhaps the worst teacher I have ever had! He was extremely unfair and didn't care at all about his students! I am not sure if he can even teacher ochem anymore!

This man deliberately presents new material on the test and says that people who have truly mastered the concepts will be able to anticipate the new method. The mean score on the first exam was 32% before the curve, but he still insisted it was doable.

Gives no examples on how to do the work and you are always atleast a section behind him because he writes too fast and doesn't explain his notes.

Totally agree that he doesnt care about his students. His lectures are copying his notes the ENTIRE TIME. No time to hear what hes saying, too busy writing. And if you're scared of Africans with heavy accents, stay away from Sylvester in the Lab.

He is not as boring as other chem. professors at UNLV. He encourages students to come to his office hours if they need extra help. He tries his best to make the material interesting.

Great teacher, but his tests are way too hard.. and the final is a Bombshell... However, do NOT get Sylvester Ifalade for lab, he is extremely impatient, even on the first day, and his unclarity will hurt your lab grade. =(

Chem is not easy, but this teacher tries his best. His uses funny examples to make a boring class interesting. Spends as much time as possible to help you understand concepts. I'd take his class over most other chem teachers.

He is very unclear, his tests are fair to difficult in level and he doesn't seem to care too much about his students
