Very passionate teacher. Be ready to bring your 'A'-game. Very helpful outside of class. Friendly. Extremely intelligent and well-spoken, a nerd in the best ways, lenient to a certain extent/standard.

Professor Goodmann's class is definitely challenging and you have to put in effort/go to class. He assigns a lot of homework/reading & can be a tough grader - but consult with him, go to his office hours, get to know him. He wants to see you succeed.

I'm sorry, but all ya'll complaining about the length of papers or his inability to comprehend that his students are taking classes other than his are just lazy--especially if you were taking an upper-level course. Classes are challenging and occasionally time-consuming but never anything unmanageable. And I've had him twice while taking 21 credits

He knows what he's talking about course-wise, but can be extremely demeaning and treats his students like middle schoolers. He acts like his is the only class you're taking and doesn't approve of literally any time consuming activity outside of class. Classes are interesting but keep your head low.

He is nice enough but is overtly pompous, he also expects you to geek out over all the readings. I feel like he appeals to a certain kind of person, so maybe give him a chance during the add/ drop period but keep your options open

Dr. Goodmann is incredibly intelligent and passionate about his area of study. The class was difficult and had a hefty work load at times, but I learned a lot and definitely improved my writing skills. Take if you love literature and want to learn from an extremely knowledgeable and interesting professor.

If you aren't willing to attend lecture, read diligently, speak up in class, and grow as a writer, this class isn't for you. However, if you're looking for a riveting experience AND hard work, Goodmann will be one of the greatest and most memorable professors you'll ever have. He is brilliant and passionate, and he really cares about his students.

This class started out seemingly easy, but it was the total opposite. Long ass papers, and he is meticulous with every aspect of it, and lots of reading. He is not a fair grader and is not very nice.

Dr. Goodmann is a brilliant guy and loves it when his students show initiative. Papers are easy if you engage in class discussions and visit him during office hours. He's super nice and loves to chat with students. His classes are challenging, but I definitely recommend him to all who are interested in medieval lit or Tolkien.

He's a quirky but fun professor. Its not an easy grade. His classes are meant for student discussion and when there is no student participation the class can get stale.

I was really interested in the topic that he picked for this semester, but it ended up being the class I liked the least. He rambles in class and returns papers too close to when his next paper is due. He was clearly very interested in engaging us as well as the topic, but he needs to harness his energy.

Seriously, one of the best professors I have ever taken in my life. Took one of his classes as a "filler" class, and was honestly surprised at how much he actually cares about what he teaches. Has a terrific way of making the students interested in it too. Bar none, one of the best professors I have ever had.

I'm working my butt off in this class, Some of the text he assigns is so out there I have to read it 3x over to understand what he says about it. Not easy at all. goes out of town when you need to go to office hours. Difficult.

He is very passionate about the subject, and knowledgeable too. Interesting books, but a lot to read (6 short novel length). Essays are expected to be top quality, not an easy essay grader. Willing to help at office hours, occasionally does class projects and presentations. Overall moderately difficult class. Don't take it w/o putting lots of effor

Goodman is the best professor ive ever had including my law profs at Columbia! He's amazing! He's super passionate about literature and VERY accomplished in his field. And he's also very knowledgeable on modern references to whatever he's covering. He's the only teacher who's class I wanted to go to, and he's the only teacher who I've ever wanted to take again. I recommend him to all English majors :D

WARNING: DO NOT TAKE THIS GUYS CLASS. EVER. DROP NOW!Why? Professor Goodmann is not consistent, often grades based on his personal feelings and not on onjective criterion, and although he keeps class discussion on the topic, he is so arbitrary in his grading style as to make his class an excercise in chaos in that regard.
