He was difficult. The lectures were very difficult for me to understand. I definitely had a hard time. Chegg was my bff.

Lectures are kind of confusing at first but once you get used to him it makes a lot of sense. There's a lot of homework but to be fair, physics is a difficult subject and requires a lot of practice, so I think the amount of homework is helpful. The exams are usually pretty easy and there's only 3. They usually range from 4-5 free-response questions

Dr. Sergan can be pretty intimidating, but his lectures are fairly straightforward and cover the content thoroughly. Exams were all free response, but in some cases, the exam problems were actually easier than the homework problems he assigned.

Sergan is a tough but good professor. Sometimes, you'll have to teach yourself a little cause lecture isn't 100% clear. Overall, the class is passable with an A with a little extra work. Also, theres a fat curve at the end to help balance the toughness of the class. Dont be intimidated

I've had sergan for the lab portion of 11a, and the lecture/discussion. To start off, he grades the lab extremely harsh, but you get 5 points to start off on the assignment just for being there, be sure to triple check your data because he is very strict about it. Now for the lecture/discussion, all I have to say is chegg is your best friend.

Sergan is probably the second best option for 11c. Class is not mandatory, he spends class periods mostly deriving equations. He hand writes his own homework problems, which are hard, but if you do them you will pass his exams easily. It is not an easy class. If you know someone who had him, old exams are really helpful to study concepts.

I really enjoyed having Dr. Sergan for a professor. He has a thick Russian accent; although he's a bit intimidating at first, he's actually really nice and his jokes are funny if you catch them. Exams are much easier than homework; if you need help on the homework, he's almost always available his office. Pretty easy, would definitely recommend.

I came into this class liking physics, sergan actually made me low key hate it. He was not clear on what to expect on exams. He used the same homework he gave to his PHYS 11C class to his 5B in which no one knew how to do. its best to just go to PARC or find a tutor and only come to class to know when exams are, DOES NOT GO BY SYLLABUS EXAM DATES

He only writes on the board and does not use PowerPoint so pay close attention to his lectures and the equations he derives. Exams are not long but he is a tough grader so make sure to show all work. His final is designed to help students who are not doing too well so they have a chance to pass the class.

If you value your GPA avoid this professor at all costs, take this class during a later semester if you have to. His tests are OBSCENELY hard, and the homework he assigns is child's play compared to what you'll see on the exams. There are many different 11A professors, several of which give very easy multiple choice exams. Take them, avoid Sergan.

Professor Sergan knows what he's doing and will always be there to answer any questions. He can be a bit intimidating though and he has a dry sense of humor. Overall, however, he is a solid choice for a physics professor. Attendance isn't mandatory, but unless you're good at independent study, you might want to attend his lectures.

I only had him for the lab portion. He is really picky about what he wants in your lab report so make sure to cover the objective, data, results, graphs, and conclusion. He is intimidating, but he will help you if you ask. He has a dry sense of humor. There are about 12 labs and one lab exam. He drops your lowest lab score. Good luck!

Really intimidating at first but give him time. Lectures can be confusing, but if you go to office hours regularly and show him you're working your butt off, he's always there to help. Don't expect to slack off if you want a good grade. PAY ATTENTION to his derivations, he makes mistakes sometimes, so correct him. Don't overthink the problems.

Comment:
The best thing about sergan is his tests are EASY, especially for 11c. As long as you write down all the equations for your cheat sheet it's all algebra after that. During the final he allows people that are failing to take an easier test. He wants people to pass. The homework is ridiculously hard but if you can do a couple of them you'll pass

Dr. Sergan is tough but it's for the better. He has a dry sense of humor but you will eventually get use to it. I only had him for lab and enjoyed my time in there. He is straightforward about what he wants and does grade harshly. Make sure to complete your whole lab reports correctly. He does check everything especially your graphs and conclusion!

Had him for Lab. VERY strong russian accent. He assumes you have a very strong physics background by Day 1, and jumps straight into complex equations. 10 labs, 1 test on uncertainty. His labs are very straight forward, but he will mark you down for the tiniest mistakes. Good news is that he doesnt assign pre-lab assignments or work to finish @ home

If you're confused in lectures, don't worry. Most of the stuff he goes over is deriving formulas, and you only need to know how to use the formulas. He allows a cheat sheet of notes on each test (4 mt, 1 cumulative final). Tests aren't too difficult, plus he curves at the end of the semester. Take right after 5a so you don't forget everything.

Dr. Sergan is the best professor I've ever had. He knows the material extremely well, and his lectures are very helpful. The subject material in this course is not easy for most people, but if you work hard you can get an A. His exams are fair because he only will ask questions that are similar to the assigned homework questions.
