Comment:
Dr. Hershberger is the sweetest person, he knows about architecture history and encourages students to participate and share their opinions. He takes attendance every class, and grades are only based on three exams and a group presentation. The exams are open book but still a little hard, 100 minutes for 100 questions so it's important to study.

Comment:
Not an architecture teacher. Doesn't know what he's talking about; only refers to the book. Refuses to post the notes online because he doesn't think people will come to class, even though attendance and participation is 20% of the grade, so if you miss any notes, you're screwed. Unrealistic expectations about students' availability.

Dr. Hershberger seems like a nice guy, but he is an awful professor. He never responds to emails, assigns readings and expects you to google and find the pdfs yourself, and his exams are not straight forward. His lectures are painfully dry and he can go on about the same small thing for 30 minutes. I never feel like I learn anything in class.

Comment:
Dr. Hershberger takes attendance every class and only grades exams and a group project. But the exams are open book/note and aren't too difficult as long as you take notes in class. His lectures can sometimes be a little boring but he really encourages questions and opinions. He definitely knows what he is teaching.

Really passionate about photography! Would recommend taking him in a history of photography class rather than the 19th century painting course. Graded on 3 exams, a group project, and attendance ONLY, but exams are open book and if you pay attention to the interesting lectures then it's an easy A! Discussion is encouraged.

Loved Dr. Hershberger. Super knowledgeable about art history, and treats his students very well. Tests are pretty difficult, but not too bad if you put in some real study time. Also, be prepared to participate in class.

I've had him for two classes and he can be a bit dry at time, but he really loves to teach and is willing to help you with class and letters of recommendation. I would come to class everyday and you must do the readings or you will not pass the exam. That being said I did most of the readings and still got an A in the class.

This is the second time i've had him for a class, last semester it was for a seminar and he was awesome. This class was hard its History of Photography, his field, and the test had a lot to do with theory and its multiple choice with a lot of trick questions. Bad at answering email but more than willing to help if you see him after class.

I really liked that he made the arts and theory class a seminar class, it made it a lot more interesting and we could bounce ideas off of each other which didn't make the class boring. It is very important to show up to class because he does count that towards your grade. The end project was kind of confusing but he is always very helpful.

Dr. Hershberger means well, but his lectures can be dry. He's enthusiastic about the subject nonetheless. He encourages us to read the text even though I barely touch it. Just take REALLY good notes (on a laptop is easiest) because he can talk fast and he says a lot of side notes about artists/work that you may need on the online tests.

I would not recommend taking his class. He grades hard, his tests are online but he only has half of the question images and the other half is questions are from lectures. Each class you miss you get 10 points taken from your grade.

Andrew is a nice guy, but he is monotone which makes it difficult staying awake. He gives more of his opinions than actual information about the art, and I found myself correcting him twice on incorrect information. His specialty is photography, so I would take his history of photographies class for sure! The online tests were the main plus!

Love Andrew. I've taken two of his class, both 300 level. While his class isn't the easiest, YOU decide your grade in this class. His attendance is mandatory, and your grade will suffer if you don't come. His exams are all online, so if you fail to take notes, you will do poorly. I would recommend him above any other AH prof for 300/400 level class
