She's very intelligent and insightful. Makes you think about things like you never have before. Lots of reading and lots of reading quizzes. If you don't read, you won't do well. Definitely not the easiest class I've taken but I think I'm a better reader and writer because of her. A good grade is possible just be ready to put in effort.

Dr. Dunning is so intelligent. She makes you read a lot of material, but it's worth it for her amazing lectures. She doesn't put many grades in and is a difficult grader, but as long as you put in a good effort, you should be fine. She also loves participation and will hear out any opinion she may not agree with. 10/10 would recommend.

She was an awesome prof and part of the reason I am now a WGS double major! Very interesting and insightful, as well as funny and understanding. Lots of readings for class but most were provided and no textbook. However weekly quizzes were common. Easy if you did the reading. Great class overall

One of the best professors I've had at Miami. Dunning is absolutely brilliant and articulate in every sense. The class was very easy and grading was based on reading quizzes and essays. If you actually come to class and do the work you will do fine.

Dr. Dunning is super intelligent and knows what she's talking about. Classes are typically almost entirely lecture, though she throws in some group work occasionally. Her quizzes are to make sure you read, and you can't pass them without reading. Papers are few, but long and somewhat difficult. Letting her know your face in class is a must.

I loved Dr. Dunning! She was a very inspirational woman and I tried very hard to take one of her classes again. She is hilarious and loves when people participate a lot and ask questions. The readings were lengthy, but you can get away with skimming. Definitely take her if you can.

Dr. Dunning is one of the smartest professors I have had here at Miami. She challenges students to think outside the box in the class room while engaging with course text and flims. At times, it was hard to engage especially if you hadn't read, otherwise, she's a great professor. EASY grader.

HEAVY READING LOAD!!! Literally be prepared to read. You must stay on track with reading or you'll be in bad shape. She gives pop quizzes on the novels read. She's a very fair grader though. No exams except the midterm and final, 10 quizzes throughout the term, and 4 research papers on the books you read. Participation is very important to her

Dr. Dunning was knowledgeable and made class interesting for a discussion based lit class. Seemed to be a fair grader and offered chances to pick up points through plot quizzes and paper rewrites. All around fun, humorous, intelligent woman. Always seemed willing to help and answer qs. Ordered pizza to class one day which was an added bonus :)

As shocking as her class could be, it was eye opening, raw, and amazing. The debates and conversations were stimulating enough that I would honestly be unable to sleep thinking about them. A lot of reading and not a lot of guidance on essays, but we were allowed to fully explore our theories and ideas, received insightful feedback. Would take again

Comment:
Dunning's class was a waste. We never learned anything about Theory and just talked about sexuality, not matter the supposed topic. Dunning's laid back and can level with students but she preached her opinions and would interrupt and shut down anyone who opposed her during class discussion. The novels we read were horrible too.

Comment:
Since most people take this as a Miami Plan class, she goes easy on grading. Some of the novels read are literally horrrrrrible, but as long as you read them, come to class, can write semi-coherently, and take the midterm and final (they're SO easy if you've attempted to read), you'll get an A. I recommend!

Dr. Dunning seemed disinterested and would sometimes just not show up to teach the class without so much as an email to the students. She is a hard grader!! The class was over 40 people & she told the class before finals a lot of ppl would not be getting participation points. Every class you missed over 2 u were docked 1/3 letter grade

Keeps class interesting with discussion groups, video clips, and relating things to pop culture. Fair grader, but you definitely do need to speak up in her class to earn participation. Lenient if you don't get the reading done every once in a while, but read ahead and stay on top of things, you will be rewarded for it.

I felt like Dr. Dunning did not really care about the class; she was just going through the motions. Discussions were boring. Overall, I was disappointed because she's clearly very intelligent. Perhaps it was an off semester/off class for her.

While we don't see eye to eye on everything, she knows her stuff and has a lot to back up her positions. While that's expected, she makes students think critically and is very tolerant of even the immature. Her class will make you grow and understand the literature and period much more, even if you disagree with some of the politics. Recommended.

VERY interesting. Although some of the reading can get intense, her sense of humor and discussions make the class lighter. She's extremely intelligent, witty and really relatable. Keep up with the reading and you will do fine on her quizzes. Definitely recommend her
