Comment:
I have never seen a professor play favorites as Anne Winters does. Day 1, speak up and speak often, know the material and she will love you. Other posters are correct, her level of intelligence is superior, but her condescending tone, biased grading and inability to accept any view other than her own is unacceptable.

Comment:
Unrealistic grading, little no feedback given on tests and papers, extremely condescending and unclear, old and out of touch. Terrible teacher, worst experience in a 200 level English class here.

Prof. Winters is fantastic. She is extremely smart as other posters have said, and has led an amazing life. We should consider ourselves lucky that she is teaching at UIC. There was not very much work in the class. 2 papers 2 exams. She just expects you to read, and then think about what you have read. She's a grat person to get to know too.

"Tizzy" is a good word to describe what it's like in the presence of Anne Winters. Her level of knowledge is incredible. I used to skip over footnotes and unfamiliar references in texts, but seeing her annotate and google everything has influenced me to do the same. She's challenging, but worth it. She's also got a style of humor I'd like to have.

She is hard and she is smart - most importantly, she holds her students to very high intellectual standards and expects a solid work-ethic. I'm not sure why students writing find this a problem? I sure didn't and neither did many of her students who have gone on to succeed. If you want coddling and mediocrity - go elsewhere. she rules!

Positive: Prof. Winters was very clear with her midterm/final expectations. Negative: Unfortunately, there are too many I could list here. She often contradicted herself; encouraged students to ask questions and speak up in class yet frequently interupted them when they did; she has a tardiness policy yet she was late to nearly every class herself.

Boring class because of the teacher, I loved the material (esp. the romantics). She's just really dull, and too smart to teach. Meaning she expects everyone to be on the same level as her. Minimal work load kind of hard , but still annoying.

A very nice older lady. Very smart, a published poet. Class holds your attention most of the time. Not a hard workload. Two 6p. papers you have to write, which was the hardest work of the semester. I would recommend taking her class.

HUGE name-dropper(that gets really annoying). we don't care if you know poets/taught at berkely. art snob. likes big words in poems, unless they're YOUR poems, in which case she'll say you were just using big words to sound smart and your poem sux
