Moroney is one of the best professors I've ever had in my entire life. This class kept me engaged/interested the whole time. He is very knowledgeable and informative but also makes you reason about so many things. I recommend him 100%

wonderful course, but this man is *bad* at coaching. He spends a lot of time criticising, but then instead of being encouraging and giving a chance to do it right, he launches into an endless lecture about how *right* he is. Endearing enthusiasm... until you're frustrated out of your mind. So why is the course good? CARLA MOORE co-teaching!

Not only touched on the structure and format various keyboard pieces, but also their historical and social contexts. Also covered the evolution of the harpsichord and piano. Incredible class!

If you have any musical training at all, go to lectures and discussions and you're practically guaranteed an A+ (which was the grade received by practically everyone I know who took his courses 27 and 128D). If you're in 27 you needn't even bother with the textbook as long as you attend class, though the CD set (if you can get it separately) helps.

His lectures and textbook readings are out of order so he'll talk about one thing in lecture and make us read about another topic in the reading assignment. He's not great at explaining stuff and listening parts of the tests were pretty tough. Many people skipped class and fell asleep in lecture and many people ended up taking it Pass/Not Pass.

Grrr... this class is boring as hell and I fall asleep every time Im in the lecture hall. I had Camille as GSI and SHE IS NOT HELPFUL! Don't get her if you are deciding which section to take. Take somebody else. At the end I take this class P/NP because I wasnt confident enough to get a grade better than B. It's not as easy as people think!

Prof. Moroney's appreciation for Bach is clearly evident, and the class overall took a balanced approach in analyzing Bach's music with respect to the time periods of his life. His exams and papers require listening skill, but otherwise are manageable when written conscientiously. In-class performances brought Bach's music to life. :)

i was worried about my final grade...worst case being B+ but i was aiming for an A. i was surprised that i got an A+! it depends on your GSI- i had kristin zoellner and her sections were interesting and she was nice. my friends had rebecca and camile and they got screwed over. i ditched a few lectures here and there and i was fine

very, very boring. sometimes he goes off and talks on and on about something completely useless. the average quiz score was usually BELOW passing because no one really got the material. had to change to p/np and this is true for a lot of people that took the class. this is not an easy class as it may seem to be in the beginning.

Taking this class is easy for people who already have a musical background, but it's also very bearable for beginners in music. Readings aren't necessary but will definitely help understand more in depth. Discussions are also very helpful in elaboration of lectures.

Good Prof. Very interesting lectures, but can be boring to some. I stopped doing the listening asssignments and reading after a few weeks, but still got an A, prob b/c my GSI was easy. Papers short, interesting, and fun. Easy assignments. Music library time for homework time consuming, though. This Prof made me appreciate classical music.

Maybe this class used to be easy and interesting, but something has changed. Lectures are boring. Maybe the fact that the class sucks is easier to get over if you have an easy GSI. If you get the hard one(s) like I did, it sucks. This class is not for music majors, but my GSI couldn't remember that.

He is very smart and fair. He introduced me to a variety of music in an interesting way. He talks about everything from political to sexual undertones in music in a fun and interesting way. Has recorded several albums. Often plays passages during class to demonstrate a point.

Very easy class (especially for musicians), based partly on musical time periods, styles, and form. His lectures can become slow and tedious, but I liked "Mr. Bach's" easy-going manner and steady rhythmic pace. Readings aren't very helpful, but the course introduces you to very interesting and different musical forms.

Great professor...while he can be go off on tangents sometimes, it's better than staring at Powerpoint slides, and those tangents can be quite entertaining and informative.
