This is a pretty good class. All you do is read the novel and then discuss it in class. I just skimmed through the book and took notes during lecture and I got an easy A.

Comment:

Very nice teacher, very knowledgable. He has you read the entire book Strangers From a Different Shore throughout the whole quarter, and lectures on the chapters in class. Take notes on his lectures, which is what he tests you on, and you will get an easy A. Tests are essay style, usually you can pick from 2 questions which to write on.

Comment:

Kubo was a very helpful professor, and he was a very nice guy. His quizzes and tests were relatively easy, but i think that by allowing extra credit to compensate for bad quiz grades, it makes it pointless to even take a quiz and/or study at all. Aside from that his group projects were graded somewhat awkwardly.

The class was pretty easy and kubo was a nice guy. hw is 1 chapter reading per week-really easy, but you don't even have to read b/c he explains it all in class. grade is, 1 family history report, 1 group project, 1 CER, about 3 quizzes, and the final which is about 2 paragraph answer to each 3 questions. take him for a gpa booster.

Ok so his class can be a little boring but you learn so much about your "ethnicity". He is very very very knowledgable and very approachable. nice prof! he always go over what you need to know before the quiz which is helpful and his final wasn't that hard! no midterms but you do quite a lot of work for a GE class..take him!! I guess...Easy A...

Got through the class without touching the book once with a A. Just go to class the day after he assigns a reading, he will go over everything that you will need for the quiz/final. One group project at the end. Easy A.

Pretty easy class, quizzes are simple and he normally go over the questions he's going to ask right before a quiz. 1 group project, 1 essay/family interview, and an essay final which is pretty easy. Can be pretty boring in class, so you can either read the text and show up only for quizzes or not read and try to stay awake in class

I agree with all that the reviewers below me said: lecture can be boring but attendance not mandatory, interesting material, easy A (but extra credit is still offered, which bothers me since most hard classes, esp. math/science/engineering, don't offer ANY), & so on. You won't regret taking this GE class that fulfills a req. at all UC's & CSU's!

By far one of the best and most well known professors at De Anza. Prof/Dean Kubo is actually the founder of Visual Communications (the oldest Asian Pacific American film, video and media organization in the world!) Nearly all my classes in UC Berkeley relates back to his stuff he did as a lifetime activist and academic. Simply AWESOME PROFESSOR!

Incredibly easy A. I think nearly everyone got an A. Class isn't required, so feel free to miss a few classes if you want, he doesn't care. Could be boring, but it's interesting if you are Asian or have any interest in the subject.

VERY EASY, nice guy, but EXTREMELY BORING. 1paper/interview on your family, 1 assign, 1group proj, 1essayfinal(prepares you for it), short essay quizzes every other week. discusses chapter everyday so you DON'T even have to read! ALL the info for the quizzes/final are discussed in class! (take good notes) questions end up being VERY predictable!

He's a fairly easy teacher. He give you a book to read and goes over each chapter so reading isn't really necessary. He's ridulously boring but easy. So if you want an easy but boring class, this is it.

Really great teacher, know his material well. Class consists of short essay quizzes and possible 1-2 projects. All of the quizzes comes from lecture note and light-reading book so just study that and you'll be fine.
