Elizabeth has a bad attitude towards her students. She was cold and curt when you talked to her. She made labs uncomfortable because she was rude and condescending when you asked for help or clarification. She was easily upset and let her temper flare in class. Her marking was unreasonably difficult, inconsistent, and slow.

She was extremely rude and made multiple vicious comments about student's abilities in class and in private emails. We paid good money to learn biology, not to be personally criticized about our intelligence. It's unfortunate that she refuses to take responsibility for her lack of clarity and bizarre, fluctuating expectations.

Alright lecturer, her voice is annoying tho. Average for midterm was actually lower than final. Midterm was too longg, but the final was ok. Lab exam is doable too. assignment is bogus and marked hard.

Comment:

I found Dr. Elle to be very "inside the box". She does not reward critical thinking, and has very specific ideas on what is correct. She has a nasty temper, was often condescending, and got mad at people when they had difficulty understanding something. As an A student, I still found her to be incredibly rude and was afraid to approach her.

She's a nice teacher who's lectures are not that bad. Ecology was kind of boring though. Textbook readings were recommended but only served to back up lecture material. Just go to lectures, listen, and understand. She has her own grading scale so it's easy to do well as long as you keep on top and don't fall behind. BISC lab was pointless though.

Great professor. very interesting and funny. awesome videos. Mid term wasn't too bad. Just be prepared to use your knowledge rather than cramming. Don't waste too much time on Inquiry Figure assignment, it was marked fairly easily for us.

Comment:

Initially intimidating, Dr. Elle was actually very approachable. Although she marks fairly hard, the assignments and exams aren't terribly difficult and she gives out many extra credit assignments to make up for it. Book isn't necessary providing you attend all lectures, which I'd recommend. Overall a very enjoyable class/professor.

Probably the best course i've ever taken at sfu - great opportunity to practice critical thinking and improve my writing! Lectures were clear and interesting. With that being said, Dr. Elle can be pretty intimidating and has been known lose it on students. I had no problems, but tread carefully..

By far, the worst professor I've ever had! She was extremely rude at the beginning of the semester but when it got closer to the evaluation, she sucked up to the students! After evaluations, she went back to her snotty ways and didn't keep her word! She brags way too much about her published work and makes people feel dumb!She flirts with boys too

Comment:

She's an excellent teacher and very funny. Her lectures are interesting and I'm never bored because she has such a great way of putting the concepts of this course. She wants her students to do well but it is still challenging. She is always willing to help students do their best. Even if plants aren't your thing, she makes this course worthwhile.

She expects students to work hard, think deeply and contribute. She does end to have a sort temper, but if you work hard (this is a 400 level course) she's great. Definitely work through the problems she suggests and actively participate in class.

Can respond in a vicious & disrespectful manner if she doesn't like what you're saying. Dismissive of thoughts that might not agree completely with her narrow, "inside-the-box" perspectives. If you're submissive she'll answer your questions, but don't have any ideas of your own! Be the blank slate!

Very nice, funny prof. Exam questions are not hard, but she really picks random things you normally wouldn't think would be on exam...so you must study every little detail. Also, tough marker in that she wants exact answers; hard to get part marks.
