this class in general is just hard so not much blame can be put on the professor. however matthews is great at giving partial credit, and will sit down with you and make sure you understand the material. she gives detailed notes. would take again.

Let me start this off by saying Professor Matthews is the worst professor I've taken at JJC. She's incredibly dry, lacks respect for her students, and overall doesn't care. The whole class did bad on a test and she responds with "guess that's just a topic you guys don't understand." She tries to help but ends up talking herself in circles. Avoid!

I'll start with a few positives, she grades on a curve and will give extensions on homework. Now for the bad. Lectures are extremely dry, she over explains easy topics, but doesn't spend time on hard ones. She doesn't try to make the material interesting. She also rarely enters grades. She generally seems like she doesn't care. Avoid taking her.

Very nice and understanding- however this class was a nightmare. Lectures were her talking in circles about the same, pointless thing. Did not make things easy to understand at all. Never puts grades in, all semester the only grades in the grade book will be a total of 3 tests- nothing else. Hard to know where you stand in the class.

This teacher was very difficult to talk to and was almost close to never available outside of class making it very hard to ever seek help outside of class from her. She is a very smart individual but she does not teach the material in an understandable manner. She also will talk herself in circles around the same topic and make it 10000000x harder.

I love, love, love professor Matthews. if you pay attention in her class and make an effort to understand the material, then she's very generous. Always willing to help out and help you understand concepts. Chemistry can be tough and she understands that not everybody will have an easy time with every topic.

Lectures that absolutely bore you to death. Does not check email often, over-explains every lab experiment for 25 minutes beforehand, and bombards you with excessive papers that are not necessary. Homework on the online site MasteringChemistry by Pearson is not what we discussed in class, and is incredibly useless for a $70+ add on to the class.

Matthews is a very caring professor that knows what she is talking about. However she takes her sweet time to turn in grades. Throughout the whole semester she will only include your test score and quizzes, she will not include homework, Mastering Chem, labs, extra work. It makes it very hard to know what your grade is in the class. Patience is KEY

Dry, long lectures that make you want to cry. Exams are rough and long (2-3 hours) but she does give you study guides and little cheat sheets. Bad at explaining things. Nice lady but I wouldn't recommend taking her.

Shes very proficient in her field. She does go fast with the math and parts that need to be drawn out, so pay attention. It'll be fairly easy if you already took chem in high school. Beware if you haven't taken chem yet because she does go fast. She pretty much compressed everything I learned by taking 2 years of chem in high school into 1 semester

She knows her stuff and she will definitely get you all the info you need. Her lectures are incredibly dry, though, so my best piece of advice is to either take her class an hour a day or take the longer classes but dont have any other classes those days. If you can survive the lectures shes a really smart, nice teacher.

Susanne Matthews is a nice teacher and overall she knows her stuff like it is impressive. However, her tests are all worth a ton of points (120-186) and she makes them extremely difficult. If you fail a test, youre overall grade wont be very good. She does give some extra credit that is very simple. The class is also curved at a 65 being a C.

Very sweet lady, but goes very fast paced. Will cover an entire chapter in one class. Does not let you out of class ever. Is willing to answer any questions. Definitely have to study and work for your grade. Does not update grades very often, only will put in test scores but nothing else. You have to print out own labs so be prepared!

Very nice woman however she is all chemistry. There is no excitement in the class whatsoever. Lectures are long, problems are tedious and you HAVE to put work in outside of class. Test are hard but she does give you all the points you possibly can get. BEWARE: She takes forever to put grades in.

she lectured for the full 3 hours, do not expect to get out early. She was very sweet an genuinely cares about her students passing. She was always happy to help. she has a good sense of humor too. Chemistry is boring, but she made is somewhat enjoyable. I would take her again, without a doubt. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!! take her!!!

Her lectures are very dry. She doesn't joke a lot or tell personal stories. It's all strictly Chemistry. She's not a bad teacher though, she explained things well and I felt that I learned a lot.
