Comment:

Flavio is often condescending in the way he talks to students. I experienced interaction that left me feeling bad and unsure about myself. I would not recommend a course with him because his updates on the work for the next class come too late, he doesn't provide helpful feedback, doesn't respect students, and doesn't allow for valuable discussion.

His expectations for time management are basically that you do all the work as soon as he sends it, but he doesn't post assignments in a timely manner. He has very limited availability and relies on TAs to provide assignment feedback. He is not accommodating for students with chronic and/or mental illnesses.

He wants the class to be discussion based but often won't let others speak. Lots of readings to do but his time management is off which means most of the readings don't need to be done. He also wouldn't post the assignments until a the night before they were due. His availability is very limited and relies on his TA's to give feedback.

My class was not a fan club for Flavio. I wouldn't have signed up for this course if I knew how difficult he would make things. Beware of Flavio.

Flavio is a pretty cool guy, and an average professor. The class material was interesting, but was structured as mostly lectures and independent reading with weekly responses. He is also notorious for being 5-10 minutes behind schedule both to begin and end class (so be careful of any tight schedules).

Flavio is definitely a hard teacher but that's because the subjects he covers are often complex. His classes are demanding so you'd better to be ready to put in a lot of effort! That being said I joined his class as a first year and even though I was intimated, I soon adapted to the structure and did fabulous!

Brilliant, educated, articulate passionate teacher, do the readings and engage in class. he does a great job of understanding the complexity in issues and what his students are struggling with.

I went into this class with some interest, but not much background. Flavio picks obvious favorites, who will be called on, excused, and made exceptions for on a regular basis. In the meantime, there are clearly people who have something to say who he does not call on. Very unprofessional teacher.

I found him kind of intimidating at the beginning of the semester, but I think it's just because this is a kind of big class--if you slack off he'll ignore you, but put a little effort into your work and into getting one-on-one time with him, and he's great. Very together, very passionate about what he teaches.

If you are taking one of Flavio's classes you must be extremely interested in the topic. He makes you work hard and will not accept slackers. He has kind of a mean presence in class, but once you get to talking to him in his office he warms up a whole lot.
