If you get Janet Cross for English, switch out immediately. I worked so hard for this class and it looks like Im going to fail anyways. She expects you to know all the answers, is vague and SHAMES you if you ask questions or dont know the answer. She rarely uses canvas which is problematic. I usually excel in English but here I am now, failing.

You either love her or you hate her. She teaches old fashion, which a lot of people don't like, she doesn't use canvas. She uses a old website called Mahara where you turn everything in. If you are willing to do the work then you will be fine, but it is not an easy A. We didn't read any books, we only used the textbook for the class.

Comment:

Professor Cross is one of the best instructors I've known, she makes you think and she expects you to be responsible, if thats too much to handle then dont take her class. Mahara is easy to use, the other site where she posts assignments does need upgrading. Cross is an easy grader and gives plenty class time to work on your papers.

Worst teacher I had my first semester at Moorpark. Doesn't explain work and expects you to come in each day to class knowing what was due even if she only vaguely explained it. Unless you are an English Wiz don't bother taking her class unless your ready for spending a hour or two on tedious assignments that don't help with becoming a good writer.

This was the worst class that I have ever taken at Moorpark College. Attendance doesn't matter and then you'll fail for not coming to class. She refuses to use canvas so you'll never know your grade until the end of the class. She won't ever explain what she wants to be done she just expects you to figure it out. You might as well teach yourself.

bad. she is unorganized, uses Mahara but doesn't teach you how to use it, so good luck. She expects you to be on top of everything when she's not. She is flat out rude to her students. No way of seeing overall grade at all. told me and 3 other students on the 3rd day of class to drop it because we were so far behind we would fail.

Cross is very forgiving but only if you are on her good side from day one. She uses Mahara which is the most difficult website ever and she doesnt give you any feedback about how to use it. She does break down the writing process which helped a lot. If you don't have your textbooks by day 2 she will dismiss you from class.

Her class is very confusing and the reading material is incredibly boring. She is very unclear about a lot of things so ask questions if you need clarity. You'll never really know what is expected of you most days. As a first year student, this class is responsible for 99% of my stress. Honestly wish I would've dropped this class. Pray for me.

Even English is not my first language, Professor Cross had a lot of patience with me. She also gives great advice during a difficult personal situation I was going through, She looks strong but is such a great human been.

I really enjoyed her teaching style and I did learn a lot. However she has us use this website called Mahara that she created that is confusing and often complicated. Mahara alone made the semester a nightmare. It's unnecessary when D2L and Canvas exist.

Show up on time. Being constantly late will get you on her bad side. Don't forget to bring a PRINTED version of your essay on workshop days, it makes a difference. All in all, I loved the course and would take more classes from Professor Cross. If you are an English major, I highly recommend her.

SHOW UP ON ESSAY WORKSHOP DAYS!! Mahara is easy once you play around with it. If you need help, Professor Cross is almost always avalible right after class and she will help you. If you are a slacker who just wants the easy way out, do not take the class. If you want to improve and work hard, the A is achievable.

Do not take this class ever! This professor is rude as all get out, she is self centered and she is very unclear on what she wants on her websites. She uses this broken website called Mahara. The website is broken and you have to turn in all of your research papers on it. She sucked my joy out of English. Never take this class save yourself money.

Professor Cross is a tough teacher but if you show up to class, and do everything she asks of you, you will be opened up to new ideas and ways of thinking you may have never imagined. Taking her class was invaluable to me and I can say. for certain, will save me later in college. She is an amazing teacher and is not given the credit she deserves.

Most amazing teacher!! I hadn't taken an english class in quite a while, and although she is tough and expects a lot from her students, she does care and will help. She has a very low BS tolerance which many of my younger classmates did not like, and will call you out. If you put effort into your work she WILL see and she WILL help.
