Comment:

I do not consider myself a chemistry person at all, and past experiences with chemistry left me with either fails or near-fails. I took professor Opotowsky for chem 24b and passed with a B+. Her energy when teaching and her ability to break down topics makes her among the best professors I've had.

Comment:

She makes chemistry easy which is no easy feat. She takes you step by step through the problems which helped tremendously. She is concerned about her students and when you dont understand something tell her because she will do her best to assist you. Occasionally you will have to research a topic but this is very few and far in between.

She is a good teacher but can be a little off. She tries to be funny and walks around to make sure no one is on their phones. Lots of quizzes in the beginning. Lots of memorizing for quizzes and test. GET IN A STUDY GROUP. It helps to have a group for this class, it will make it easier and not as boring. Study guide is the test, make sure to do it.

BEST chem professor EVER! She has a very kooky personality, but just get over that. She makes chem so easy to understand, you have to TRY to fail. You learn soooo much with her. Amazing.

VERY friendly teacher, but VERY unorganized, which makes some students slack off. She'll say that HW assignments/quizzes are on certain days, but forgets about it. No feedback on any assignments/tests. It's possible to get an A in the class, SELF-TAUGHT. She is also unclear on grading exams, which is unfair. For lab, she basically does it for you/:

She definitely has the spirit of a teacher but is very unorganized. Her lectures are so jumpy. Her quizzes are strange because she just gives you a blank paper and expects you to regurgitate everything you know. Does not give feedback on hw/tests but will answer questions. NO partial credit. Do Dimensional analysis or you'll fail.

Looks like the female version of trump. Very nice lady that is willing to help you out. Easy A as long as you try and ask questions. Gives out quite a lot of hw and grades extremely hard on the labs. Make sure your answers are 100% correct or prepare to lose many points. She is very picky about using pen vs pencil, so be careful. Gives few quizzes.

She is really helpful. She doesnt make the labs complicated and most of the time makes it easier by helping her students in executing the procedure. In her lectures, she makes it a point to make it easy for us to grasp the material. Yes, she is big on solubility rules. Come to class, do the work, youll get an A.

Comment:

Joelle is a very sweet and kind professor. She is a bit disorganized and the online homework doesn't necessarily align with the lecture of the week, but she is happy to help you. One test was graded tough and the second she gave away points, but the final was reasonable. Learn your polyatomics and solubility rules and you'll be fine. Not an easy A.

Unorganized. She doesn't review any material that she already taught, she expects you to know the stuff as soon as she goes over it. No chances for extra credit and no dropped grades. Homework is online and completely disconnected from her lectures. Lab is easy though, she goes over it beforehand. If you ask for help, she just says to look in notes

Seriously, if you get anything lower than an A, you didn't even try. She makes it so easy for you to get an A it's almost as if you think she's tricking you. She genuinely is really an amazing and intelligent instructor who truly cares about your success and she is super funny XD I absolutely loved her and her class, definitely would take again.

Very confusingdisorganized. I asked for my grade & she wouldn't say. Lets you know what will be on the exam before hand, but not worth feeling you barely learned anything & are unprepared for 24B. Agarwal is way more straightforward. Also avoid Anderson for lab if you can. He's new and messes up your gradessafety procedures in the lab often.

Really easy, don't see how you could get a B or lower. However, unorganized and won't really prepare you for organic chem. Grades leniently on assignments and labs and study guides are 100% the same on exams. A lot of mundane work. Learned a lot but like most of everything you learn in school you will forget.

Prof. Opotowsky class was confusing, she assigns lots of busy work but is very clear what is on the tests/quizzes. Overall I didn't get much out of the class, mostly memorization and busy work. She is a very approachable and enthusiastic professor.
