Comment:
Professor Tuman is a very knowledgeable person and gives very very informed lectures. Not everything is written in the note outline he makes so it's wise to take your own notes and not to rely solely on the outlines. The reading can be heavy, but I took the summer course so a regular semester is probably a bit more reasonable. Enjoyed this class!

His lectures are a bit boring, since he just stands and lectures and only writes a few things on the board. There are two exams and a 10 page research paper, which weren't bad. Don't procrastinate the paper. If you do the study guides he gives for the exams you'll be set. It shows that he enjoys the topics and is very knowledgeable.

I took this over the summer and enjoyed the class. All of the class is lecture and reading. Take notes and read and you will be fine. He gives a study guide for the midterm and final which was really helpful. Understand the questions on the study guide and you will be fine. He gives great feedback on the assignments too. He does random attendance.

Summer class. Very knowledgeable on subject and gives informative lectures. Able to address any question. Tracks attendance for class discussion days which are random. Midterm: 1 short answer/1 essay. Final: 2 essays. Also 1 3-4 pg term paper. Provides study questions for midterm/final. Provides detailed feedback for improvement.

Not going to lie, this class was challenging but interesting. I learned a lot. He is super helpful, do not be intimidated. he is always available during office hours. Gives awesome feedback. DO THE READINGS* you need to reference them in exams. one long paper (lets you choose topic). get study buddies, it helps.

Really boring for summer school. If you take him over summer, he has random participation days at least once a week. He goes off topic constantly in his lectures. Gave 1 essay, participation pnts, & 2 test(answer review questions in essay form). Must study all/most/some of the review questions. Pricey textbook to rent. Passed w/ a B.

Very interesting class, but during summer it was 2 hours mon-thu so it became boring a little. the tests are fairly easy, but you have to know all the review topics to feel confident for the test. His grading is fair also. No worries if you keep up with class.

Textbooks can be helpful for more detail or answering review questions; otherwise, lectures will suffice. Has outline that he follows closely. Attendance is a must for classes he counts toward participation (sign name on sheet to get points). Didn't find him dismissive for help, just busy as he's chair of the PSC dept. Easy B but hard A.

I've taken Mr. Tuman for just about every undergraduate course he's offered. Incredibly knowledgeable and assumes we are there to learn. The best teaching methods I've ever encountered, it's a shame he can't teach most PSC electives, but at least he's the Political Science Dept. Chair now!!!!

I minor in LAS I have a 3.9GPA and I'm a senior. This guy is smart and he means well but on his tests he expects you to reference texts specifically BY AUTHOR. He expects a photographic memory? If the info is correct and you fail to site which book it is from on his test, expect a full letter grade beat down. IMO that is too demanding.

Great teacher. I have taken him twice and in both classes I have enjoyed the class. Most of the time I would go into the class, listen for 20-30 min and just do other stuff outside of class. Read the notes he gives you and if you are not knowledgeable with the material read the book.

One of the most intelligent and knowledgeable professors I have ever had. Knows his stuff and expects you to know it too. Read the book, take the notes and you'll do fine. Knock the research paper out and you are golden. Attendance is taken at random and counts for 5%. Midterm and Finals study a MUST cuz there's a hella of a lot of info. Cool prof.

Great teacher! He knows so much about Latin America, the books are very helpful and the readings are too. The exams are hard so you have to study a lot. The study guides are long and you won't exactly what is going to be on the exam so you have to know everything on the study guide.

Easy class, but so so boring. It's HARD to make poli sci boring for me, but he did it. Lets outspoken students take the lecture on long, pointless tangents. I asked him a question about the reading after class and he was, at best, dismissive and unhelpful. Again, easy A, but I'd rather get a root canal than sit through one of his droning lectures.

Comment:
Dont take this class, especially if you love poli sci! Lectures are boring and monotone and grades are solely exams, which are essays. Dont expect them back for over 2 weeks either! He is rude and doesn't care about his student's well-being. He uses E-Reserve articles excessively. Due to the essay format, grades are subjective.Good luck!
