Professor Koopmans to know each student and wants to see everyone succeed. Majority of the course was focused on lectures and readings, so if you cant keep up its not worth it to take one of her classes. Super passionate about the material so shes very nit-picky and marks hard. Worth it for the engaging lectures and course content!

Koopmans is a very knowledgeable professor. I liked that there was no essay and only various types of tests. There are a lot of readings so the course really requires a lot of time and effort but not that hard if you're interested. My critique is the no computer policy as I prefer typing notes rather than writing and she won't budge on this.

Incredibly hard and nitpicky with marking. Definitely more concerned with how much you write instead of the quality of your responses. Shes fine as a lecturer but she assigns so many readings and only lets you write notes by hand. NOT an easy A.

She's an okay professor who is quiet condescending, but if you want a good grade then do NOT take her classes. She lectures right after tests which are barely an hour long and unless you can MEMORIZE every single word of her lecture notes/books she assigns you will not pass.

Probably the hardest and best History professor at york. She really cares about her students and is passionate about the subject she teaches. She is also a world renown historian known for her work with stained glass in Canterbury cathedral. My only advice is that you make sure you have a light schedule before taking her 4th-year course.

What she lacks is her inability to accept the use of technology, whether it maybe posting lectures online or using your laptop to make notes in class. I had missed lectures and had no way of getting her previous lecture notes, which she wrote by hand... This course has so much content; in my opinion her rejection of the use of moodle is crazy

Professor Koopmans is a sweetheart. Lectures are incredible, she is so passionate about her field. Really interesting material. No moodle, no technology. Lots of books $$, lots of reading. She provides reading questions to guide! Exams only 50 mins but long.. Highly recommend this professor. Cares about students, always responds kindly to emails!

her lectures are awesome, she doesn't use moodle so go to class, all her notes are important and she lets you copy everything down. TAs were both cool I had Barry torch, some texts books we only read a few chapters and thats it so try to buy them used not new because its a waste of money.

Amazing, amazing professor with a clear passion for her subject. Unfortunately allergic to technology, and didn't even *have* a moodle: if you skip class, no way to get notes.

By far the greatest Professor at York University. Wishing she taught a 4000 level history class because I would have taken it in a second! Sure the exams are dense, however, if you study, there should be no reason as to why someone would do poorly in the class. She is very passionate about teaching and makes lectures extremely enjoyable.

Professor Koopmans is such a sweetheart. She is extremely passionate about teaching the course and really knows her stuff. She made history very interesting and enjoyable. She always tried to make the class a little bit interactive and tried to get to know the students. Interesting course and I would take any class she taught. Great TAs as well.

Full lectures notes are projected during class to be copied down. No website, no slides posted; lecture attendance is only way to get the notes. Weekly readings with assignments (which are necessary to do well) take time. Tests are doable if you know the material and plan ahead, but leave little room for error. Passionate lecturer. Knowledgeable.

Great lecturer, loves what she teaches. Very general test reviews. Too much on tests (questions, chronology, short answer and essay in 50 mins). Her TAs are very tough graders. Interesting class but I wouldn't take it again.

Knowledgeable, passionate, and engaging, she is generally an great lecturer. However, be prepared for her to view you as a student instead of a person. She is extremely inflexible, mildly condescending, and will not allow you to use your laptop if you have one. Also, be prepared for heavy reading and an exam with unrealistic time constraints.

Passionate and knowledgeable about the content. It is a large time span but Koopmans covers it all. Lectures were once a week with multiple exams (no other assignments) but you must be willing to put in an effort and study because there is a lot of info thats covered. Overall, great prof

This fourth year seminar is set up to make you work and if you're not ready to give it your all, don't take it. It's set up with seminar leads the first semester and a research project the second but you have to be ready to put your time in, and she will too! High expectations but great, passionate prof

She's a great Prof but her exams are ridiculously unreasonable. 60 mins to write two essays, short answer, matching and fill in the blank. She doesn't even specify what will be on the exams she basically says "everything". Also the lectures barely have anything to do with the books. Not my fave class. She's really energetic and nice though.
