Comment:
Professor Switzer is an amazing professor who really gets people to think critically about the course material. She's very careful to include different intersections of oppression in her analyses which may make her seem "intolerant" because she does not allow any kind of bigotry. I love her and would take her again in a heartbeat!

Comment:
Everything about this professor was just mediocre at the most. It's like if you're taking a philosophy class in a high school. I think that some of these other ratings are giving this professor a lot more credit than she deserves. By no means is she anything great.

Switzer is a headstrong professor with a lot of unconventional but admirable opinions. She is an incredible teacher, don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Our entire class thinks differently after Phil. of Love & Human Sexuality. She explores taboos and provides a lot of insight. She's intimidating at first, but you warm up to her.

I'd agree with the "talk to her outside of class" comment. She might not be the most approachable off the bat, but once that barrier is down, she's a great resource. In my opinion, she's like sal, in that both have become Whittier staples. You miss the experience if you miss taking at least one of their classes.

Michelle Switzer is a very "out there" professor who you can and ought to reach out to.. Communicating with her is very important...bc those who do, LOVE her and those who dont, HATE her. If u talk to her outside of class, she is funny, interesting, and understanding to your situation. Great class format and discussion.

one of the best teachers at whittier. Her views may seem extreme and out of the norm at times-but I respect her boldness and her intelligence. Her classes are challenging, but in the best way- she challenges you to examine yourself and society, to look beyond the surface. I recommend her for everyone willing to put in the effort.

Basically, this class should be called "Leftist Ethical Theories that a 'chip on her shoulder' feminist professor would find plausible." I say 'chip on her shoulder' because Switzer embodies many of the character traits of the 'oppressor groups' she supposedly despises. She's got some major issues. Take this class at your own risk.

Good clear lecturer. Not a very nice person. I would imagine not a very nice philosopher either. But hey, if this doesn't bother you, you'll at least have a thought provoking experience in her class. Isn't that what all good classes do?

One of the worst professors I have ever had. Totally boring, very self-righteous. I went to her office hours for help and she made me feel really stupid for not understanding her muddled lectures immediately. Other female students seemed to get much more of her free time.

Comment:
Basically, this professor is everything you would expect from a liberal arts college like Whittier: She's dogmatic, unclear about expectations, and packing a very obvious agenda. If you can stand her bizarre politics, you may be graded more leniently if you regurgitate her views. Deviate from her norms at your own risk.

Comment:
This is a professor with a condescending attitude towards anyone who disagrees with her. Her classes are more like re-education camps than vehicles for the development of critical reasoning. You do well on her tests if you regurgitate her views on the course material. Also, you are graded more leniently if you are female.

Fem Phil a tough class, material very dense. Unclear on expectations for papers. Regardless, an interesting class. Human Sex was much easier. Learn how to do end notes parentheticals don't cut it.

If you want to get pissed off at your professor I suggest you take one of Switzer's courses. She is completely anal about grading paper assignments and invents her own rules that are supposedly better than the Random House book's.
