Comment:

An insane amount of work for an introductory philosophy class. Readings from many different sources a week, multiple papers, weekly quizzes, and weekly discussions (700 words total for full credit). This professor alone turned me away from philosophy. I took this class as an elective.

This class was mandatory for me. Roche is NOT. good professor for the common student. He lectures for 1.5 hours. He asks questions that he wants a specific answers to. It's his way or the highway. I thought the textbook he chose made the complicated topics to learn more complicated. He is a hard grader, he wants his material only. Worse Phil prof.

Monotone. I liked him, dont know if most will. Goes extra mile to help you understand; also has study days & questions are repeated on test/quizzes. If you can BS, don't buy text; I never did. Not even the course packet which he stressed but never used. PAY ATTENTION when someone ask question & youll pass w/out even listening to him.Try not to zzz

Good teacher. Read the assigned texts (usually only a few pages a night), and take notes. Don't take this class if you're not a good writer because the exams are all essay.

Great professor! Really goes the extra mile to be sure you're understanding the material. Goes over things again & again until he's certain you're getting it. He is very kind & understanding. He'll allow you to email him your answers to possible exam questions & he'll send you his responses to let you know if you're on the right track. Loved him!!

He takes his job as a teacher seriously, and it shows. He thoroughly explains the material while involving the class in the lecture. He asks questions during the lecture and likes it when you can answer a difficult question. He's very encouraging and nice and disciplined and dedicated. You will have 2 or 3 papers. No quizes.

Roche is very helpful. He's happy to answer your questions and to hear what you think. But if noone participates it makes him angry. So SAY SOMETHING! Besides that he's a pretty funny guy, in a sarcastic/dark-humor way. Make sure you do your reading and really understand the concept before the exam day comes up.

Roche was a very helpful teacher. I was not very interested in taking this class, but it proved to be very beneficial to my GPA. The readings may appear to be hard, but he explains them so good that you get interested in it and understand it.
