This man is great! His class was not only easy but incredibly fun as well. The only thing that I would say that was "hard" was the readings you had to do, but since it was only vocab, I've got no complaints.

I took DEAF51 and DEAF52 this past semester and lemme just say, Dr. V is phenomenal. He was able to easily transfer his in-person classes to online seamlessly. I loved the video lessons and the video assignments cause they helped so much with memory and muscle retention. Dr. V is an amazing and caring professor. Absolutely loved him!

Vicars was great! Very passionate about teaching and super patient. Also a big goof ball, he made learning sign language so fun. Definitely have to show up if you're going to learn, ASL is the type of subject you have to practice a lot if you're going to get it. He is a fast signer also, so you will want to be extra attentive to his lectures

Fantastic prof! He is welcoming, patient and funny. Encourages all questions regardless if its about vocab, content or Deaf culture. This is a class you don't want to miss/be absent in. A quiz almost everyday (in- class or online) to re-enforce and test on vocab, content/hand position and facial expression. Follow the syllabus due dates!

Excellent teacher. The way the practice sheets incorporated the vocab made it stick in my mind after the first or second mention, which is rare for a foreign language. The variety of games we played in class were great because they were attention grabbing and different, and they encouraged participation without making people feel on the spot.

He's a nice person and he obviously has a lot of experience but I didn't enjoy his teaching style. He doesn't require you to buy the book or even do any homework. I think some extra practice at home would have been beneficial. He seems more concerned with peddling his youtube channel. He's ok, but I wouldn't take him again.

When I get to meet Deaf people after this class, I find myself out of touch with signs. I noticed it's not always consistent when he has taught us compared with the Deaf community's signing language. Even though he has a great personality, his instruction isn't always consistent with the rest of the Deaf people I interact with.

I was nervous going into sign language but Dr. Vicars really opens every one up. He takes the time to digest the material, and uses his own website as the textbook which is far better and covers everything that you would need to ever know. The tests cover him signing to you and as long as you study you will pass each exam. Super funny, and cares.

disclaimer: I've had 3 years of previous ASL experience. Bill is great and extremely funny! He doesn't use interpreters in this class but he will write things on a projector so everyone can follow what he's saying. Test every class period and one weekly online test (multiple choice online). Each week, One test is receptive, one is expressive

Vicars is the reason I came to this University. He is internationally renowned, intelligent, but mostly he is kind. He understands each student is an individual and caters to what they need to be successful. All professors should strive to be like him.

Dedicate your time into this class. Have time to go to his website Lifeprint and learn the signs because you are quizzed everyday. You cannot miss class because of those darn quizzes. He is such a sweet professor and picking up sign language will take time but with his extreme patience you are set to pass. Have 15 online quizzes, and class quizzes.

Best ASL professor I've had yet. Dr. Vicars is hilarious and has a very upbeat personality. We didn't get a lot of homework & we played games to learn new signs. He always replied to emails & was easy to talk to outside of class. You could tell he cared about each students. I wish I could take the next ASL class with him, but he is not teaching it.

Amazing professor. His LifePrint/ASLUniversity website is the best resource that is offered for any level of learning sign.. Anyone who says that Vicars is not a good professor obviously didn't bother to even try in his class.. Online quizzes from his handmade videos follow the lessons to the T. Always there for clarification.

He is the best Deaf Studies professor available. TIP: he gave us the study guide at the beginning of the semester, I started studying from day 1 and I got 100% in the whole class. Study those index cards a little bit everyday and you will pass with flying colors.

I can't say enough good things about Dr. Vicars. Being in class is like watching a theater production he is so darn lively. Three quizzes per week; one online, one in class where he signs, and one in class where you sign. Very easy just review the vocab before class and you'll do fine. If you do well on the pre final you can skip the final.
