Comment:

Favourite Japanese teacher at Deanza! very respectful and gives good lectures. Learned a lot from her. I wanted to continue taking Japan 2 next quarter but I didn't, because she's not one of the Japan 2 teachers. I only want to learn with her, hope she can teach Japan 2 in summer or fall :)

Comment:

As a native English speaker with little to no experience with Asian languages it wasn't extremely hard. You definitely have to try to learn it though. You can't just learn it through osmosis. She tells you what's on the test but they're still really big. Not a lot of points so be on your game. Very fast paced. She's a nice lady and will help you.

I love her. Favorite teacher so far at De Anza. try to learn as much as you can before going in to the class like just listen to Japanese tv or music. Yumi sensei does talk fast and incorporates some common phrase just when talking to herself or to the class. Other wise an extremely easy class. It is fast pass, mostly because it is quarter system

I loved this class. Probably one of my most favorite professors out there. Took the class a year ago, but I would definitely retake this class again if I had the chance. She's really nice with a soft voice and she'll help you if you have any trouble. If you need someone to learn Japanese from, I'd pick her.

She can be disorganized and kind of rushy, but the quizzes and homework are super easy. She is a really caring teacher and needlessly apologizes when there is a "hard" lesson or hw. Plenty of extra credit. Show some respect in her class because she is genuinely kind. A lot of pair work and and 1 oral. Final was somewhat tough.

Not my favorite teacher, but he is a very nice person. You will never know what pages you need to study. She speaks Japenglish all class long. I know it is a language class, but she is near impossible to follow. Goes through material far too fast for people new to the language, does not wait for questions or student feedback. Highly disorganized.

Such an awesome teacher! So peppy and on top of things. She makes learning a new language both fun and educational. I really appreciate all of her hard work. I would take her for all of my classes if I could. Take her and you won't regret it!

Yumi is one of my all-time favorite professors! She is hilarious, adorable, and makes class so much fun. Her homework, quizzes, and tests are easy without being *too* easy. She will challenge you and you'll love it. All in all, JAPN 001 was a great class with a perfect professor. I can't wait to start JAPN 002 in a few days! <3

Sensei was very sweet, her lectures were a bit hard to understand bc of her accent. Quizzes were easy. Tests were easy IF you understand the HW. She accepted late HW. She tells you what to study and her in class final review was really good! Better than her normal lectures. One oral presentation at the end of qtr. 3 diff books needed.

Very nice teacher, but if you miss a class you better have a good excuse if you want to turn work in late. You really need to put time in to study because she tells you clearly what you will be quizzed/ tested on.

Comment:

Very nice and helpful teacher. Not much work. We had 1 midterm and 1 final. 1 homework assignment every week, and about 7 vocab quizzes (all very easy). Some times she panics and speaks in Japanese very fast. Great class overall, I recommend it to anyone interested in learning the language.

Great Sensei! I was taking the evening class and definitely learned a lot more than I would hope for. She is really nice. Gives lots of homework and lots of handouts. Tests/Quizes are easy if you study since she even tells you exactly what to study.

Comment:

the teacher is good with a lot of passion in teaching Japanese. It could be harder for the beginner because she used Japanese mixed with English to teach the class, but you will get used to it soon. The tests are straight forward if you study hard and do the excise.

Comment:

I had no prior knowledge in Japanese. Admittedly, it is a very challenging language to learn; however, Sensei McCormick makes this class as easy as possible to learn. There's a lot of vocab to memorize but she gives you study guides for the Mid-Term and Final. Anyone that does not get an A is a direct reflection of the lack of effort applied.

Very motivated professor w/ a heart of teaching! She gives handouts to each lesson and midterm review prior each test to make the class easier to learn/study. I never have a Japn. teacher before who has effective and clear teaching method as Sensei McCormick. She gave the class a 4pgs final review summary and 3pgs of final study guide. A+++ Great!
