Comment:

Dr. Puha is very passionate about teaching, and she's extremely approachable. However, at times definitions/topics would be too vague in class, with more guidance needed. This would give issues on the homework being unsure of what you can/can't do, and some problems were just not do-able unless you went to office hours. Good teacher, hard subject.

Comment:

Textbook loan in library. Allowed all waitlist students in class. She cares about student's learning. HW is harder than lecture and tests since it's a hard class, but she'll help you pass. Very strict about testing, doesnt like her work being distributed. Shes very confidential about her work when someone takes a picture of her keys.

Comment:

The best Professor I have ever had at CSUSM. She is beyond caring and dedicated to her students. People want to be able to get an easy A, but thats not the case here. When you take her class and get an A it is because you have actually understood it. That depends on you. Professor Puha is more then willing to get you to that level if you try.

Comment:

I took professor Puha for Calc II. She was fantastic. I love how she was so keen on helping every student and making herself available to students. Although some of her lectures were a bit confusing, she made up for it by taking time after class to explain said concepts flawlessly. Her grading standards are fair and reasonable. Great professor!

Comment:

As someone who really enjoyed calc 1, I felt like Puha made this class very difficult to understand. Her examples were nowhere close to the hw or exam problems. She expects you to give up your life and other classes for her class. I would not recommend her!!

Comment:

Great teacher, she provides the topics that will be on the test and is always willing to answer questions. Took her for calc one and calc two. She is a fair grader and sometimes even gives a few extra credit points. I would recommend her to people that are at least "OK" at math. I didn't put in as much effort as I should have but managed a B-.

She's not good at explaining, maybe because she's used to teaching graduate students and expects you to know the stuff already. Fair grader, usually 10 percent extra credit on test. 3 test 1 final, tons of online hw and group work sheets, don't skip second lecture. 68 percent is a solid C in her class.

Make sure to attend every lecture lest you get behind. Dr. Puha doesn't depend on PPTs so her lectures aren't boring and she makes you do examples in class so there is some help to see where you might get stuck. The homework can get really lengthy so make sure to start early. For tests, make sure to practice ALL the WebAssign and you're good.

I love Prof Puha, she is so sweet and understanding. It is a very fair class and she provides so much help for her students. But her class was very very difficult, especially if you have never calculus before. Her tests were always super hard. You really have to earn your grade for this class.

Such a hard professor. Makes you work really hard for your grade. Definitely consider getting the book to help yourself study because if you just buy the online package for homework you won't get much explanation to why you're doing what you're doing. Her awesome ass makes focusing in class really hard. Expect the most random questions on tests.

Her class is very fair. She gives lots of chances you to do well in the class, extra credit, copious amounts of HW for points but its not hard, and an exam that overtakes another. She really goes out of her way to help the students even knowing most of the students names. Only thing I didn't like was that she didn't give a real practice exam.

Comment:

Spent countless hours in the math lab and you will too. She gives lots of online homework. It gets tough, but remember, life's not easy. This class will be a journey, a pilgrimage. Taking Puha will strengthen your endurance as a student. She is very willing to help, don't be afraid to ask. BTW she's beautiful.

Seriously one of the hardest classes I've ever taken. She expects you to do your homework online, which takes about 10 hours out of your week. Her tests are extremely difficult and she's definitely NOT clear at all. Basically, the amount of work she gives out of class doesn't clarify anything and it consumes your entire semester. Might not pass.

By far the hardest class I have ever taken. She is brilliant but lectures are intended for people that have already taken calculus. So much online homework. I spent most of the semester in the math lab and went to her office hours, but nothing helped. She gave lots of example problems but they were nothing like the problems on the test.

Grades assignments ridiculously hard. Her aids will grade the test and make multiple mistakes and then getting those mistakes fixed is a major hassle. Sometimes there will be multiple ways to do a problem and the aids will mark you down if you didn't do it the way they wanted you too. Very annoying to have to take every test to the teacher.

This class is so hard. Barely passed. The material is hard to understand and there is SOOO much online homework. I could barely keep up on the assignments. The tests are ridiculously hard, because of the wording of the problems and she gives you a lot of example problems, but the ones on the tests are WAY different.

The students that go to her lectures the most and attend office hours will do best in the class. Plan on spending a lot of time in the math lab. She really wants to help her students, and tries to do so. Puha is extremely intellectual which makes her lectures hard to grasp, find someone who will dumb it down for you and it will be fine.

This professor I can honestly say has been the hardest math and homework grader I have ever had. If you've never taken a calculus class before you will need to study a ton to pass tests. She's helpful though when you ask for help she gives it to you. Attendance isn't mandatory but she does a lot of her own things that she will want done on the test

Comment:

I had the misfortune of having her be my calc teacher. She is not very good, unsympathetic, and the class is very, VERY hard. Still I'd rather take it with her then Chien, but that's for another time. If you can, take it with someone else. Trust me, it's a very time consuming and convoluted class.
