Had a great experience with Jose in Hispanic Civilization 1. He's one of the nicest profs I've had. Would definitely take his classes again.

José is a wonderful, caring man. He avoids overloading his students with work, and most (or all) of his assigned readings are short (online/handouts). He loves his subject, and never lets political views and PC students dominate the subject matter. Very well versed in literature of Spain, Peru, and Mexico. Gracias profe.

He seems to know a lot but classes are disorganized and tend to drag. He also doesn't pull much from the readings, which are interesting in their own right.

Show up, get an A. Super easy, in fact a joke, but I would have happily done more work for more depth. The really good readings were treated superficially. We're not morons, after all!

Easy class, amazing professor. Very helpful, and relatively clear readings. Not political at all (which is a relief). Beautiful accent. Two simple tests, one large paper (10 pages) and 15% for participating. Show up to class, read most of the readings, and you will do great!

I liked the readings and enjoyed learning about different countries and their culture. Classes were boring however and the prof was disorganized and unclear as to what the readings meant.

The prof was a nice guy but disorganized and repetitious. The readings were interesting and relevant to my major (International Development Studies) so all in all it was a good course.

This course was very disappointing. I took it because the readings looked like they would be interesting but the lectures and discussion didn't add anything that wasn't already obvious. I could have learned as much sitting in the dorms.

Jose didn't seem to have his heart in this class. For a few weeks at the start of the semester we had lectures by people trying out for a job and then when Jose took over his classes were all over the place, not very informative if you know anything about Latin American history or politics.

Jose's a nice guy and an o.k. (not great) teacher. On some days he hits a home run, on other days he strikes out badly. I'm still not sure what we were supposed to get out of this class.

He is a really nice professor that is passionate about realismo magico which made the class quite interesting. Be prepared to read at least 4 novels in Spanish! Spanish American literature is fascinating.

Jose's a nice guy but hard to follow. The course is disorganized and repetitive and although the readings are mostly interesting it's not clear what we are supposed to learn from them. I liked the first survey much better.
