Professor Chomsky was one of my favorite professors here at Salem State. She was reasonable, kind and I truly felt like I gained a lot of knowledge from her course. She listened to her students needs and wants, which meant a lot during this time. Reading heavy. Handful of writing assignments (But she's very helpful if you take the time to use it).

Avi is an amazing Professor. However, in my opinion, her abilities are beyond Salem State. I personally think that she could have her own show on cable news or could be running CNN if she wanted. Shes that brilliant, and that influential. Be advised, you have to do the readings to do well. If you do, its an amazing class.

Definitely knows what shes talking about. Will answer every and any questions you may have. Fairly easy grader. Doesnt really assign written hw except papers but get ready to do a lot of reading. Had her for freshman seminar, learned A LOT from each class alone. Sweet, genuine woman. Cares a lot about her students and helps them however she can.

She is very nice and knows what she is talking about. I received all a's and b's on my essays, even on my crappy one. don't use bathroom during class if you can. be prepared for random pop quizzes. I took a level 100 class and it was little difficult to be honest but not bad. make sure you READ THE BOOKS.

I have taken Avi for two classes now! It took me a little bit to warm up to her, but she is really incredible! She knows what she is talking about! Everything is very discussion based and she will stare at you until you say something, so just go with it and say anything you can! Chooses good reads! Honesty is key, she will always hear you out!

Be prepared to read A LOT. You will need to buy and read the books to do well in the class and on the essays she assigns. Skimming will not work. I did not feel like I could write the essays to the standard she wanted.

My favorite professor last semester. She's inspiring and appreciates effort. I was initially intimidated by her only assigning 4 papers and no other work, but papers were easy if you were attending class. All novelette type reading, no textbook.

I took her FRESHMAN seminar. Repeat FRESHMAN. She taught at a level I still wouldn't understand and its been over a year since I took that class. So many books you have to buy and HAVE to read. Hard grader, very opinionated and if she didn't like you, she won't be subtle about it.

Teaches even 100 level courses like a graduate class. You will read at least four books. (Yes you HAVE to read them.) She can come off as rude, not allowing students to answer fully before correcting them but once you get used to her style, you'll learn to like her. Lots of group discussions and sharing of ideas. Be prepared to read and talk!

She may explicitly call you out for anything in class, reminiscent of high school. AMPLE homework, essays (toughly graded and rough guidelines), and an overall air of not being able to express your opinion seems present in my opinion. The content itself is interesting but I found it to be presented poorly.. DO NOT Recommend under any circumstances

Prof. Chomsky is one of the most brilliant people I've ever met, and I feel lucky to have had her as a teacher. Her lectures are superb, she grades and responds to emails/questions very quickly. It is obvious she loves teaching, and she has a very democratic style. Do not waste this class! Do all the readings, the books she assigns are incredible!

At first I didn't like her but she isn't too bad. Homework is basically all reading there's a lot of books. If you don't like talking then take someone else because she does many class discussions but if you participate she will notice! Gives "quizzes" often but if you read you will get an A on them. Never lets class out early so plan accordingly

I suggest NOT taking her. She speaks very fast, she quizzes you on random class days with EXTREMELY specific questions from the readings, she's cold and unforgiving when it comes to if you have a late assignment because of a real-life concern. AND there's so many books which cost so much money xP

honestly she's not the easiest of teachers. but then again the most brilliant ones usually aren't. all she asks is that you do the readings and write the responses (journals and papers). its really not too much to ask for any history major who is serious about their work/ future.

One of the best! Treats students like adults, even as scholars,if they aim to exceed. Oh yeah, you have to read(in case you thought college was about attendance only). And when writing, its nice to use citations, so it doesn't seem that you're speaking only from your best guesses-something else that college courses should include. Welcome to college!

Avi's a nice woman whose relationship to the great Norm Chomsky definitely helps her appeal factor. Don't care for her classes though. They are mostly discussion based and she doesn't like when students have nothing to say. Grades are based on essays-the midterm and final are essays as well. If you agree with her opinions in essays you'll get an A.
