Comment:
I can't tell whether his passion for IP law obfuscates what is relevant to the course or if he truly doesn't know what is important. Professor VerSteeg has never been in a courtroom and neither encourages students to make legal arguments in class nor tells us how they were made in the case. Instead, he dissects (speculates) opinions line-by-line.

This professor has a great reputation at NELB. He does not cold call, he assigns limited reading, and he's very nice. However, his final exam is oddly difficult. It's a multiple choice exam, which should be easy-ish, but he asked questions about cases he did not assign, including one question about the holding of a case cited in a case we read.

Does not cold call. Treats this class as a Bar Exam prep course. Great professor!! Highly recommend taking this course. One of my favorite professors at NESL.

VerSteeg was a very effective professor, however his exam was 75 multiple choice and a kitchen sink essay which was not the most effective way to test our knowledge. He is clear when teaching the subject matter, I am taking him again next semester. Do the reading, study for his test and expect a fair but challenging exam.

I disagree with the negative comments. If you did bad on his final, then you simply didn't know the material well enough. I *aced* the final and others did, too. He's a funny guy and I think some students got lulled into a false sense of security and thought the exam would be easy--which it was, if you took the class seriously.

This professor juggled in class, failed to answer questions, and held office hours in a bar, while watching sports, eating hamburgers, and drinking beer. He was basically inert, and his analysis/feedback for student inquiries was non-existent. VerSteeg is a snake in the grass. He will burn you with his exam after a semester of lollygag teaching.
