Really friendly and passionate about what he teaches, but not the most effective. Talks very fast and can be hard to follow, but I appreciated how much he enjoys what he does. It all eventually comes together, but you'll want to consult supplemental materials. In the end it really forces you work for it and KNOW the material.

Sorenson has this way of acting like he is the best professor at NESL. He is certainly NOT. I got a fair grade in the class, which is the most important, but it was no thanks to him.

Comment:
Prof. Sorenson also teaches ethics, and he was associate dean. His teaching style clearly reflects his knowledge of legal education as a whole & legal ethics. Nothing about Civ Pro is (or should be) easy. If you show up prepared for every class, you'll be that much more prepared for the profession - as it should be.

Comment:
Professor Sorenson, is not the best professor at NESL. He is rude and borderline disrespectful. He defintely has his favorites, and if he dislikes you you will know. Not a great professor. Exams are nearly impossible, and he states that they are. Try to avoid this professor at all cost.

Comment:
Professor Sorenson is both smart and witty, it's a shame he teaches such a tough class in the first year. You just cannot keep up with Civ Pro in class, you need to be able to teach yourself it when finals come. He puts up his slides online, but you will need to wade through them to pick out the important stuff. Make sure to look at model answers.

He is a very smart man and probably would teach better in a smaller setting but you will have to teach yourself civ pro. When you give a wrong answer he dismisses you and doesn't let you know why you are wrong or help you get to the correct answer.

He speaks fast, and doesn't repeat himself. (Cf prof. VerSteeg on both counts). If you can't keep up, perhaps you're not cut out to be a lawyer. Try B-school.

Very smart guy, good teacher, moves quickly but his exam was fair. This class will get you through the MBE with no studying.

Listen, Chuck isn't the easiest professor. That being said, he's tough but fair. The final wil be extremely long and impossible to finish, but as long as you you show that you are capable of understanding personal jurisdiction you'll be fine. My best advice is to go over his old exams and read his anwers, if you do that you'll do fine.

Worst 1L professor. He is brilliant when it comes to the material but doesn't convey it well. If you don't understand, he makes you seem like an idiot. He speaks too fast in class and moves along w/o answering questions. I was so confused towards the end that the only way I learned the material was using the supp. book and videos online.

Sorenson is a tough nut to crack. He is very smart; talk’s way to fast in class but is great at being available to students outside the class. You will know if he doesn’t like you and will call on you often if that is the case. All in all a tough professor, hardest exam you may ever see, but will learn a lot. Study for his exam the most.

Professor Sorenson was my favorite first year professor. He's hard and does speak fast, but he's also really funny and engaging - which is hard to do for Civ Pro. Stay on top of the readings, look at his old exams and spend a lot of time studying, and you'll do fine and learn a LOT.

Chuck (as we call him in 3d person) is a great professor dedicated to an extremely difficult topic and makes it understanable to brand new law students. Ditto on Chuck going fast--if you blink, you'll miss important stuff. His tests are tough yet fair, and being prepared for class is a must if you are to understand anything he goes over in class.

Civil Procedure is expansive, intricate, and hard. He goes fast, real fast, presumably so that he can get to everything. He is a man on a mission. While I bemoaned his whirlwind style a few times, I realized last night (after taking the final), that I learned a hell of a lot about CivPro. 9 short months ago, I didnt know what civil procedure meant.

Great professor!!! Although he speaks REALLY fast and his exams are impossible to complete, he is incredibly fair with respect to exam content. He expects students to prepare outside of class, so don't just show up and expect him to tell you what you need to know. Absolutely one of my favorite professors!!!

This Prof knows his stuff and is passionate about teaching it. He does fly through material and his slides are of little assistance at face value. He was approachable outside of class and helpful. Overall, he has been my favorite professor as a 1L.

His final is nearly impossible. The MC questions along with his ridiculous kitchen sink essay--don't even bother thinking you're going to finish the exam. He himself told us, "I know my exams are impossible and you won't finish--just do the best you can." I wish he would explain things better and talk slower!

SORENSON. While many people loved him, he talked way too fast, scared the crap out of you when you got called on, and if you volunteer be prepared to be on-call for the rest of the class. Don't call him Chuck. ever. One of the more difficult finals at law school.

Get the E&E and listen to Richard Freer's audio lectures. Prof Sorenson's multiple choice are ridiculously hard. He is very accessible outside of class and really enjoys what he teaches. Don't let it get you down if you do horribly on any quizzes.
