Comment:

Hes big on concept as well as visual appeal and presentation. He is very experienced and rather laid back, few solid dead lines, impress him with quality work. He trys to be strict I guess to scare you into doing better but as long as you try and take his advice you will pass. He always brings in fancy japanese candies on the last day of classes.

Good guy, but he seems to have difficulty not being snide to people. (though it wanes over time for a lucky few) He knows what he's doing in the programs for the most part, but his visual critiques lack focus and usually turn into him discussing his past experiences that more often than not aren't really relevant to the current assignment/topic.

I loved John and i thought that he was a good teacher. He could be confusing at times but he made me learn alot about the programs and everything

John is... interesting. Hes always got a story to tell but after a while they become a little annoying rather than helpful. His critiques are a bit vauge but on a one to one basis he is pretty helpful.

criticism isn't very interactive, mostly him nitpicking. decent amount of knowledge on software. tells stories that don't seem to have a point. helpful in giving advice for internship/job finding.

I too, had John for three years. He taught his classes from a business perspective which helped me, maybe not others. He understood my work very well and always had advice for me. Interesting stories to tell too.

John knows the business side very well, but is also very knowledgable of the art end (he operates his own gallery). he can tend to get off track, but his projects are very real-world oriented, and you'll come out with good portfolio pieces.

I've had John Colan for three years, so it wasn't just Intro to Graphic Design. The classes were more business oriented in preparation for the real world, and internships. May not be for some people, but it sure helped me.
