Comment:

Although Jose Alonso gives a lot of work, his tests are still straight forward and clear. He also makes sure to check if every student is understanding what he is teaching. Brilliant professor! Definitely take!

Comment:

Learn his accent and you'll be fine. Took both 181 and 182 from him, would take more if my major needed it! Utilize his office hours if you're having trouble, also responds to email if you scan in/explain your problem. Text book not really used, so you buy the online code to submit homework mostly. Very good if you took lower level math outside USA

Comment:

Although he seems like a decent and caring professor, this doesn't make up for his other poor attributes. Be prepared to take a test every two weeks at a minimum. He utilizes every second of class time, so avoid his long classes (2hrs). Lastly, he covers material super fast, so you will need to seriously pay attention.

Comment:

Professor Alonso has an accent, but it is more than understandable. If you rephrase your question or ask him to rephrase something he is very willing to do so. Also good if you took math in another country. He leaves the online homework due until the last day, so if you don't keep up with it you'll be hurting. Good for working students.

Comment:

I liked Alonso's class once I understood what was expected of me. He covers the material really fast, but the combo of classwork, homework, and quizzes teaches you the material well. Only criticism is that he's not great at answering questions when you're confused, or sounds angry when you ask something about material he expects you to just know.

My prior experience with Calculus was 20 years ago. I was weak in Algebra and Trig. However, Prof. Alonso explanations are clear and good. It's still math, so if you don't practice, you don't learn. However, a good explanation makes the difference. About 7-8 quizzes, 3-4 test (one for each module), 2 exams and homework. I will take 182 with him.

He is a good teacher. We didn't need to buy the book, just the code for online homework. His accent was hard to hear, but I got used to with that. Actually, I had studied MATH181 before in my home country so this class was a little boring to me. The tests are not hard, you need to understand his lectures, ask him again if you don't.

Yes, he has a slight accent, but his diction is crisp, Occasional errors when writing, but readily takes corrections. **ALWAYS print out Classnotes (Blackboard) and be sure you understand the ANSWERS to be prepared for the tests. ** Get from classmate! Grade decided by a few tests. No quizzes. Replaces lowest with final exam, if it helps.

Doesn't really teach, just does a problem on the board. Expects you to point out mistakes in what he's showing you. Only 3 tests, and nitpicky about grading. Like 12 quizzes, and drops 2 lowest. Takes a while to respond to emails. Not good at understanding questions. Moves on even if you're confused. Makes all web assign due last day of class.

Yep, I do agree to those who say negative about him and that he is an SOS professor in both terms. He knows the material but when it comes to teaching it, he teaches as fast as he can, making sure he gets his easiest paychecks... It hard to comprehend the material but I was trying to improve my math but he never helped but just leaving me by myself

Warning bad teacher. He doesn't teach very well at all. Be prepared to teach yourself the material. He is nice person. He gives alot of homework and quizes online, if you do them all it will save your grade! If you don't do them you will fail! His worksheets also will help if you take extra time to look at them outside of class.

Prof Alonzo says that the Trig class is not difficult, he is correct. However, in the beginning it seems like there is too much to memorize. Remember to learn SOA,COA TOA; ASTC; and in each quadrant, x or y, is either positive or negative. Remember this, draw the picture of what you are solving , do your homework and the course is an A
