People don't like him because he give people the actual college experience with high standards. He is a wealth of knowledge. He has a traditional lecturing style and his grades are not in a goody bag for just showing up. If you don't like him, maybe you should not be in college.

He is very passionate about what he is talking about, but very difficult to follow. He uses an outline every class, but talks off of it. Taking notes is hard when he does not pause at all. He lectures the whole class. There is a 5+ page homework assignment(three part essay) every week. The final and the midterm are essays as well,both in class

great guy. great teacher. breaks things down very simply and is one of the best lecturers ive ever had. very reasonable about his assignments and very helpful with all the students. loved his class, highly recommend!

Model instructor. I had him years back and he's still among the most brilliant scholars I've met. For those who say he's boring, grow up. Lectures aren't inherently boring and Hartenian doesn't deliver them monotone by any means. I actually remember hanging on every word and feverishly taking notes. Just superb.

Comment:

He is extremely intelligent and really knows his stuff - fabulous lecturer. It is, after all, college, and we can't be doing group activities in every class. He's very enthusiastic about the coursework - I have taken classes with him outside of my major just to learn from him - he has a lot of offer! If you don't like lectures, he isn't for you.
