My main advice is to make sure you spend time writing quality answers on the exams. You get all the terms ahead of time and a long time to do the short answer questions, so it is all open-note. Pretty chill for a 5000 level class. There was a lot of content I didn't completely understand but I still managed a good grade!

This was an excellent course! Matt genuinely cares about his students and is light-hearted. I found him to be approachable and a very fair grader. His lectures were fascinating. He truly is an expert in his field. There aren't many behavioral genetics courses at universities so we are very fortunate to have this at the U.

He was really knowledgeable and was genuinely caring for his students and the class experience. I didn't expect the subject to be this interesting and I think he made the subject and class fun. I respect him a lot. Recommend!

I have never had a professor who cared this much both about the subject matter and the students. It's the first time I've genuinely enjoyed a class this much. He is a clear and articulate lecturer, and also hilarious. I would take this again if I could. Expect: decent amount of readings, difficult free response exams, 12 page final review paper.

Professor McGue is a solid professor. Lectures are paced well and interesting. He provides a detailed study guide for both exams. Since it's a grad level class, undergrads are graded on a curve. He was super gracious when I came to him with a grading error, and even helped me find research contacts in the department for my senior project.

Good teacher. Nice guy. Really cares about making students experiences in the course the best they can be. He specialized in super cool stuff. Articles rather than a textbook- really interesting.

He's done some pretty cool things. Has a hard time understanding accents and he's very soft spoken and hard of hearing. Sometimes it's hard to tell the important info from his lectures but his lectures are interesting. He's pretty good about understanding that we're students and have a lot to do so some deadlines are flexible. I'd take him again.

Fall 2017: Matt is a great Professor. He realizes that you are taking other classes. He's not too good with with e-mail but he does get back to you if you mention your e-mail to him after class or something. He remembers. Lectures are dense, but material on the test is all on the study guide. I highly recommend for your PSY 5000 level class.

This dude is the man! He truly an expert in the field in every way. He is very down to earth and personable. Makes a very funny joke here and there to keep the mood light. If you have to take a psychology class at the U and are of a biological bent in any way I HIGHLY recommend him. Super interesting class!

Matt is probably one of my favorite professors I have ever had. The lectures are long and jammed full of information, but Matt manages to keep you engaged. He also has this great, wry sense of humor that comes through in lecture. I learned so much from him and I cannot recommend him enough. That said, the material is difficult so take good notes.

Matt is an excellent professor. He does a great job of explaining challenging concepts, and he is so in-tune with his field, it's almost scary. The class is difficult, with 2 exams, a huge paper, and small reading assignments, but extremely interesting - probably my favorite course I've taken at the U. I can't recommend him enough.
