Just by listening to him speak you know how educated he really is on the subject and his love for the content of the class shows from the first day. Does not use Blackboard at all and you are graded on 2 essays. His lectures are nice to listen in on but I showed up maybe once a week and the essay's topic was usually on a poem or poet found online.

Nice person outside of class, but lectures are dry and take every second of class. Doesn't have a blackboard, only grades are two in-class essays and a final paper. Felt very high school. We didn't even read any "masterpieces", he just kind of lectured about them and we took notes. Good if you don't want to show up, bad if you want to learn.

Great professor, definitely one of the most cultured and intelligent professors I've had at the U. He is well informed on all the poets he lectures about and will give you great advice for papers and studying after class. All of the reading is done in class and everything else is straightforward. Take this class if you want to really learn

Professor Casillo is a great professor who is always available in his office or on a phone call. He is very accommodating, although a tough grader, but is a kind and knowledgeable professor. He is very interesting, knowledgeable, and compassionate.

He is a horrible professor. He never even gave us his email address. Three papers for the class all in the second 1/2 of the semester and two of them were in the last week. No feedback at all, all he puts are checks on a paper. No room for improvement and horribly boring lectures. The tests and papers are so confusing & material is not covered

Love this professor!!!! Wish I wasn't graduating just so I could take another class with him!! One of the best professors I've ever had. Amazing lectures, very inspiring, and so full of knowledge. I'd love to have coffee with him sometime just so he could teach me something :)

He doesn't use BB so you should probably attend class once a week to know what's going on and to see if you have a paper due. You have two papers to write throughout the semester and a final (in which he doesn't tell you what's on it)-but he leaves you alone in the class for the final so don't freak out over it. It's a pretty easy A.

I took this class early morning and had a hard time making it to class on time. He always starts his lecture on time, but if you read the textbook you don't really need to sit though the lecture. There were only two papers for the entire class and he's an easy grader. He's very nice and approachable. Helpful too.

The lectures are boring but if you come to class and pay attention, they will help you do well on the tests. A very easy grader and the class itself is very simple. Just a midterm, a final, and a research paper. It was a very easy class overall.

Very easy class. Just an 8-10 page research paper in any format, a take home midterm, and an in class final. The research paper is on any topic of your choice. Turnitin.com or safe assign not required. Attendance is not taken. Just keep up with the reading material. Exams are based on the reading. Easy grader. Very approachable. Take the class.

Very good teacher and very easy tests. If you know the material and read then you should have no problem with him. In my class he spent the first couple of minutes complaining about the "air conditioning situation" but once he gets down to the material, everything's fine.

This man is possibly the smartest teacher at UM. He knows so much about everything! I took his modern poetry course and loved it. Our entire grade depended on one paper (intersession course), but it wasn't that hard. You will find a love for poetry with this man. He is brilliant, laid back, and I thouroughly enjoyed his class...I got an A.
