Dr. Kappock is awesome. Yes, his class is extremely tough, but I've never learned so much in a course. He presents the material clearly, and injects funny/interesting tidbits into what could otherwise be fairly dry material. Never before has a tough 9AM class been so bearable.

He is a terrible professor and person. He talks down to students and will only pay attention to his few favorites. He does not care if we learn the material. O.K., we get it: you know more than us. It is not fare that we cannot take this course through Bio, I am sure they can fine someone better.

Very good professor. Tests were very challenging. Don't read the book! it's a waste of time. Just rewatch lectures; it's a must!

Very intelligent, but he has no clue how to convey his thoughts. He also doesn't care if the students understand the material. Also, be careful, if he finds out you don't like him, he will try to fail you. He should be locked up in a science bubble and not be allowed to teach.

Don't let this class deture you from being a biochemist. I was Kappock's TA for this class and being a biochemist is much more fun then he presents. We are not always worried about enzyme active sites!Go to the TAs get the help you need, we were always very helpful, and get through it. For the test pay attention to detail, but just learn the basics

this guy is often downright rude in person in my experence...except to the faculty of course. OBsessed with impressing the chem faculty, but seemingly indifferent to students. Absurdly difficult course...Smart guy no doubt

Comment:
What a joke! Get rid of this crackpot. If Wash U gives this guy tenure, they don't care about teaching or if the students learn. I ended with an 'A', but I didn't learn a thing. He is too concerned with impressing faculty who sat in on the course and not about the students.

This class really isn't as bad as everyone thinks it is. Tests are hard but they're hard for everyone so its a wash. If you like orgo I or II at all you'll be just fine and probably enjoy the teaching and the class.

The class was very interesting. Most of the material came from real world examples. The exams were very tough, but the curve was generous and homework helped raise most people's grades. The one down side was poor organization of the material, but this did not detract from the class too much.

Class ridiculously difficult, went through material too quickly, book not helpful as it went into extravagant detail. I was actually interested in the material but the class never facilitated my learning.

extremely challenging class. while the lectures are good, no prof should write exams with means below 50%, but two of four exams (one of which was the final) had means below 50%. good material, good lecturer, but unfair exams.

This class if very difficult. Kappock is clearly a very intelligent person, but the class is unnecessarily difficult (ie means of around 80 out of 150 points) and poorly structured.

Professor has a universal knowledge of biochemistry/bioinorganic that is rarely seen. His class is hard, but contains volumes of info. Not a good class for slacking in.
