Took for EGRE 309 Electromagnetics: A really caring and thorough teacher who will encourage and answer questions as they come. The semester I took this class with her was the first time she taught this class from my understanding (previously taught by another professor). It had one of the highest historical pass rates for the class.

Comment:
The professor was very understanding and very intelligent. The class seemed a bit disorganized, and basically felt like the we were winging it the entire semester. The lead TA was very condescending and difficult to approach. And since he handled the grades, it was a very frustrating class to say the least. The other TA's were great.

Lectures were disorganized but nobody really cared because she graded like a champ. Labs frequently went beyond our scope creating unanimous confusion, but they were fun and a great way to bond with peers. She cares about her students and even has an odd sense of humor.

Went to great lengths to make a class that could pique interest in the ECE field. Good lectures, our semester was project-centric. Wish more classes were this engaging.

Extremely disorganized and perpetually confused. She is super smart, a ridiculously easy grader, and extremely nice, but poor at communicating the material.

Somewhat lenient on grading, but was extremely disorganized. Most, if not all of the class, had no idea what was going on. A lot of the other students failed most of the exams.

Very lenient on grading. Her tests are simple and don't require a lot of studying. The only thing that was slightly difficult was her lab assignments. If you need help, she and her assistants are readily available

Teaches very methodically at a modest pace. Homework is not required, just recommended, and tests are easy if you review the practice material she gives you. The bulk of the course is the lab. It's VERY time consuming, but in the end it'll be the most fun you've ever had. She neatly ties together all the loose ends of your education at VCU.

This was the easiest class ever in the history of easy classes. She treats the students like they are in kindergarden and the tests are made for kindergardeners. I swear this was a waste of my time. Anyways, you need to be mentally retarded to NOT get an A. And she insists on teaching calculus to engineering students as if we don't know it...

She definitely teaches well if you never had any exposure to engineering (or math beyond Algebra II). She teaches in very organized and repetitive steps. The class is taught at a snail's pace, which means people skip it frequently. Homework is given randomly. Tests are easy. She is incredibly helpful and one of the nicest teachers you'll ever get.

Sorry 4/3/07 rater, but I find your opinion to be outrageously far from the truth. Dr. Filippas sets a standard of helpfulness and caring that any student would want all professors to meet!

Took EGRE 224 and 307 with her. Completely worthless professor. does not know the material and has no knowledge of the subject. very vague in her explanation and avoids questions by students. the only help for this class is the textbook!!!

Among the most willing to teach one-on-one. Some explanations are a bit unorthodox, but she won't rest till you understand. Very personal. Very disorganized. Don't turn in assignments late, not because she won't give credit, but because she'll lose it in her mess of an office. Exams and quizzes are easy and predictable.

It's a hard class to begin with. Make sure to approach her and take time for the class, also remember that a quiz is the same as a mini-test in her book, also I would recommend taking time to study the book, as although she is a very good conceptual teacher, she won't give you a completely straight answer on home to work a problem without the how.
