Comment:

Professor Mani is the best professor I have ever taken. It is a literature class so expect some readings but movies are also assigned sometimes. If you participate frequently, he will love you and class will be a breeze. If you need a non-elementary literature credit, this IS the class to take.

Comment:

Professor B has been by far my favorite professor during my time at UW. While you have to be prepared for every lecture, his lectures and discussions prepare you so well for the midterm and final. If you are looking to fill a requirement, I definitely recommend taking a course with B!

Prof. Mani is one of my favorite professors I have ever had at UW. I did not know what to expect when I signed up for a Literature class that was cross-listed with German - I am SO glad i took it! We read great books. Prof Mani gives great feedback on all writing assignments and allows for revision of everything based on his pointers. He is amazing

Honestly do not have one bad thing to say, Prof Mani genuinely cares about engaging students and respecting their work and what they want to write about. The topics and discussions were great and the class is not that much work, plus he's a pretty easy grader. All he expects is that you come into class ready to participate. Love this class!

Herr Mani is incredibly helpful in class if something is misunderstood. He tries to pick relevant and interesting texts to read. Ask him his opinion on the Van Hise building. If you get the chance, take him. A healthy amount of homework, but that's pretty standard for German classes.

Best German professor at UW. Takes education seriously, and listens to his students. Very flexible with assignments/papers, and no in class exams. Be prepared when you come to class, he will call on you. Participation is a must to pass. Reading is also a must to pass.

Comment:

One of the best professors at UW Madison. The class is great, and Mani is a great guy. 30% of your grade is tweeting twice a week and talking in class. One midterm paper (5-7 pages) and a final paper (extension of midterm paper to 10-12 pages) are the each 35%. Some reading involved but I got away with minimal by commenting on unrelated topics

I have a problem with his teaching style, his tests are easy. He is extremely condescending and only appreciates the reading comprehension that is in line with his own. Extremely annoying .

German 236: From Gutenberg to the iPad--comm B GREAT CLASS! Venkat Mani is not only an amazing professor, but actually gets you to enjoy what you're learning about. Conversations were about digitalizing books and word association with library. Fun atmosphere and a very real professor who wants you to do well. RECOMMEND HIM!

Easily my favorite teacher at this university. He was awesome, the class itself was pretty hard sometimes, but Herr Mani is so enthusiastic about what he teaches it was a lot of fun. He wants you to get as much enjoyment out of the readings as he does, so he's super helpful, plus he's just a laid back guy, so the class environment was great.

Comment:

Great teacher, laid back classroom setting, easy to get along with, and funny. Very good about explaing literature and prepping us for tests and essays. There were only two tests and no final, three papers and they were only 3-5 pages. He picked a great assortment of literature and texts; some were better than others, but you'll have that.

The single toughest, and best, teacher I have ever had. Incredible connection to the students and genuine desire to help. Very challenging material. Homework medium easy but classes and tests difficult. Great guy!!
