Fantastic Professor! Dr. Woodcock's lectures are incredibly easy to follow. He speaks at a perfect pace and goes over important points several times. His assignments are interesting and the skills you learn from them are applicable in the real world. The midterm was fairly easy, but the final was tough so be prepared.

Comment:

480 is highly complementary to 435 and 494. It's very useful for doing research and preparing students for their thesis. It also covers topics such as regression discontinuity that are unseen in other courses. This course is unique because of its "potential outcome" approach and examine limitations of various methods. He is also nice and patient.

Really interesting course and he explains it really well. The class consists of 2 short presentations, 1 paper and a final so the workload was not too bad. Totally recommend for a 400 level class.

one of the best profs I've ever had! notes are impeccably neat and organized and exams are fair and well written. not to mention the amazing eye candy. finally, a reason to go to class. even if you totally despise stats, simon will make you wanna learn it. he's just that hot

Take this class with him! Clear notes and he explains everything very well. Always willing to clarify any questions you have. Textbook is not crucial but is easy to understand. Midterm was fine, final was a little harder but that's expected.

Very clear but over-simplified lecture notes, even though the MTs and exams are based on the lecture notes. I learned mostly from the TA. Dont bother getting the textbook, just study the notes, attend class, and bother the TA for help. For the final, study early because he doesnt give out sample final answers. MUST ATTEND TUTORIAL TO SUCCESS

Simon only tests out of the notes. His notes are alright but he doesn't add much to them during class so it's hard to pay attention when the notes are right in front of you. Not a bad prof but could be better!

Don't need to attend class. Lecture notes are sufficient. Though, tutorial participation is required which makes the course inconvenient for those who don't need to or want to attend. This course is known for its difficulty, but as long as you have a clear mindset with the material, you can walk in knowing nothing about stats and walk out with a A.

Cool guy, give him credit.. he's teaching an extremely confusing subject, so the fact that people are getting as much as they are is a credit to his clarity. Although the course is (required) and hard, I recommend this guy.
