Comment:
Dr Woodard was great overall, very caring and kind to his students. He always opened with prayer and tied our assignments to current events, which was great. His lectures did seem to go off-topic quite a lot, and I ended up putting a lot more work into his class than I normally would for a 1 credit hour class, but it was still a good class overall.

Comment:
Woodard cares about his students and is very passionate/knowledgeable about literature. However, he expects you to be just as knowledgeable about the material as he, and there is a lot of reading/study required. He does not provide a decent syllabus and there is very little work to base a grade on. Great person, not a great professor.

Comment:
Some of the test and quiz questions are really obscure. On Dr. Woodard's tests, you have to know the author's life story and match quotations to the author. Also, he doesn't believe in perfect scores on his tests.

Comment:
Dr. Woodard, despite his gentle exterior, is a professor to avoid. He focuses the class solely on his personal interests and opinions, is borderline obsessed with the works of John Milton (all we wrote on), and is very difficult to work with. Dr. Woodard is very set in his teaching method and will not adjust his style for any circumstance, period.

Speaks in very hard to understand sentences which left our small class confused at every word. He chooses the most unreadable/confusing fantasy works every written. He doesn't have much homework so grade leans heavily on three essays. NEVER uses blackboard so if you miss a class you a lot. Seems like a 400 level class hidden in a 102.

Comment:
Woodard takes pride in his "unconventional" style of teaching, no grading rubrics, no syllabus, no study guides, and no clear instructions on anything. He talks in riddles, gives you no textbook and marks you off when you don't do what he hasn't taught you to do. He takes pride in his crusade to restore "teaching" to what it aught to be.

I loved having Dr. Woodard! He is so kind, and although his instructions and wording could be abstract at times, he cares for his students and I think that he grades very reasonably. He related to us as individuals, and shared bits of wisdom with us throughout the semester.

Dr. Woodard is so incredibly bright. He really makes you think! There were nine of us in my class and our discussions were amazing. I am going to miss this class so much. There was a ton of reading but you could maybe get by with reading summaries of most works. The main thing is participation. Barely any lecturing - vast majority of class is discu

I took six classes with Dr. Woodard. He's a tough professor that requires to you rise to the best of your ability. If you are a lazy, underachieving whiner who expects the world to be given to you then don't take his class. You'll just blame him for your own lack of character and work ethic. God will change your life through his teaching.

This professor is not for everyone. If you value concise, clear information, and objective learning, you will absolutely hate his class. However, if you are one who naturally loves literature and all of the subjectiveness that studying it requires, then you will enjoy the class. Math, engineering, and hard sciences people beware.

It is hard to understand what he will expect on essays and tests, and he tends to be vague in his lectures at times. I've gained a lot from this class, but be warned, it is not easy.

I only had him for an introductory English class, but he is by far my favorite professor. Never have I seen someone with such a love for the Lord and his students. Definitely not a conventional style of teaching. He doesn't spoonfeed, but if you stick with him you will learn a lot. I learned a lot more than English from him.

I've taken Dr. Woodard for both 216 and 222 and I'm going to be taking him for 403 this upcoming semester. Does he give you a lot of reading? Yes. Is he tough to understand at times? Maybe. But he really, really cares about each and every one of his students and he has such a passion for learning and for God. I highly recommend him.

Took a few of his classes a few years ago. He is one of the few people I've met who temper their wisdom with humility and compassion. His class is certainly difficult, but well worth it! He teaches through his lectures as well as through his life.

Professor Woodard was one of only a few professors I had at Liberty that were truly academically rigorous, thoughtful, and valued real education. I am sincerely grateful for the hard work he made me do, and remember his class with gratitude even though it's been 12 years. Thank you, Dr. Woodard, for putting in the effort. It's appreciated.

Challenging class, but he is a great teacher. He is concerned about the well-being of each student, and is very passionate about English and about God. I had to work hard to get an A, and didn't enjoy the subject matter a ton(18th century prose), but I really loved him!

Dr. Woodard is an excellent professor! His class will definitely make you think and work hard, but it is totally worth it. He is hard on his grading but gives tons of feedback. He loves class discussions, which are extremely helpful. Totally recommend him! Take him if you get the chance!

He is a VERY HARD professor. I hated this class. His exams were extremely hard. I would study about 5 hours for his test and it never made a difference, the questions were very random. A lot of reading every night. If you can take a different english class DO IT and save yourself a horrible semester. With that said he is a really fun and nice guy!
