Comment:
Prof Skinner is a solid choice for CM331. The class itself is annoying because of its formatting--every section is 3 hours every Monday. Aside from that, Skinner is a pretty decent professor. He grades fairly and it's really hard to not get a good grade in the class.

Honestly was not a bad class. The class is simple: go to class, listen, laugh at his jokes, and do the hw. I got a 75 on the biggest assignment and still got an A in the class. There is hw every week but you can really do it the night before. I thought the assignments were usefeul. The class feels like a waste of time but we always got out early.

My experience with Brent wasn't that bad. BUT, he barely taught me anything, and his classes were really boring. There are a lot of assignments, but you can usually do them the day before (or even the day of), with the exception of a few. If you are a naturally good writer, you'll be fine. If you are not, I wouldn't recommend him.

DO NOT. I REPEAT, DO NOT, TAKE THIS CLASS. He is the most AWFUL professor I have ever had at BU. Extremely unorganized, could not care less about his students, UNFAIR grader and obsessed with himself. Completely agree with the comment below: He loves to hear himself talk. I'm embarrassed that BU hired him.

He is actually the worst teacher I've ever had. It was almost torture going to his class each week. He loves himself and hearing himself talk and treats his students like 5 year olds. DO NOT TAKE HIM IT WILL MAKE YOU MISERABLE.

Always gives 20 min breaks! I did most of my work the day of...usually a couple hours before class and got a B+. There's an assignment or two every week but nothing is too difficult and the work is actually useful for any PR or advertising career. I would take the class again.

A genuine professor who cares about his students. It's true that the allotted 3 hours is not necessary, but he usually lets class out very early. Assignments are easy if you follow the guidelines, and you'll learn a lot if you ignore the rude comments below and try to enjoy class.

Utterly useless professor- everything he says is completely moronic. He talks in circles for 3 hours but makes you feel like you'll fall behind if you miss class, which is totally not the case. His instruction sheets for assignments are literally 4 pages of fluff. Complete waste of my time. AVOID HIM AT ALL COSTS.

Everyone thinks he is so bad but that's not true. Can be boring but the assignments are easy and if you don't get a good score the first time, he lets you do rewrites. If you go to office hours, he basically tells you what to fix and how to do it. Overall, the time in class is boring but the assignments themselves are valuable and not bad at all

Its amazing how this professor speaks but doesnt say anything!! literally blabs on for hours about assignments and then sends out an email handout of the assignment afterwards, so the class is pointless but its a small class so you kinda need to go..the only way to keep yourself sane in the class is to go on your computer or laugh at his dumb jokes

Avoid at all costs! Skinner made me feel like an idiot every time I asked a question, he never explained something in a clear way, and classes could have been over in half the time. He is obsessed with himself and his company and is useless in any creative sense.

Nice guy, but USELESS PROFESSOR. Horrible class.you will learn NOTHING! except Search Engine Optimization. He refused to give handouts unless we begged him, but offered MINIMAL direction in class. POINTLESS ASSIGNMENTS for most part. The only thing you will learn here is how to work for/under an annoying, nit picky person. Never taught full 3hours

The first class you go to you want to die because he is so boring. I almost switched classes but after a few classes you learn to love him. He thinks he is a lot funnier than he actually is, but it turns into a joke you and your classmates can bond over. As for the work, I will say he is extremely helpful in business writing.

Uninteresting and useless. He specializes in search optimized press releases - so he knows only about how to make a link show up at the top of a google search, and nothing about writing an interesting feature article, etc. He only teaches what he knows/likes which is irrelevant to most people's aspirations in PR - and less so for ad kids required.

If you want to learn to write a press release, don't bother taking this class. He's pretty arrogant and the class is frustrating because he talks about himself the entire time and makes awful jokes and laughs at himself. Any class would be better than this one because you wouldn't have to deal with this prof.

Brent is really an excellent professor if you take the time to weed out the important information from some of the unfortunately bad jokes. But if you joke along, he'll like you. He's very invested in his student's future, and even offered me a job with his company. Very personable, a little bit of a rambler, but a good guy who grades honestly.

I know a lot of people don't really like Prof. Skinner. It's a hard class, there are a lot of assignments, and sometimes he's a little rambly. But if you work hard and pay attention to his revisions, it's actually not that difficult. I was terrified of his class going into it, but once I was there I made it work and got a good grade too!

Nice guy. Compassionate toward students. Biggest problem is he's very unclear about assignment guidelines and expectations. Doesn't give handouts detailing assignments, leaving students confused about what to do/how to do it. Feedback is very detailed. Quick in responding to email. Overall, a pretty good teacher.
