Comment:
The material is super easy but the Tests are tough and really specific. So be ready to read the power points carefully because he will pick out just about every single bit of info from power points and turn it into a question. If you do that the class is easy an other than that a weekly discussion post is required and that is it.

Beckman is very knowledgeable, but has retired and was begged to continue teaching (no replacement), it is painfully obvious he does not want to be teaching anymore, his lectures are long and filled with good information, but you won't have time to study, gives no hints of what he will test over, and if he says he won't use examples, he's lying

Comment:
I have taken many online classes before and done perfectly fine with minimal studying. This was not the case for this class. The tests are impossible and although I am usually the first to finish a test in every other class, I can never finish his on time. In order to even get a D, I have to spend several hours reading and outlining each chapter.

Comment:
I took the online class and I will never take him again. His tests are impossible and he will not give you enough time to complete them in. The questions are so specific that by the time you answer one question, you are halfway done with the time limit. Because he wrote the book he thinks that he can ask whatever questions he wants.

Comment:
The course is only a month long in the summer, so be prepared to be reading 50+ pages a day and studying for 4-6 hours per day if you intend to pass. Tests are made up of 10 essay questions in 30 min that are written to trip you up. He wrote the book that you use so he's the stiffest grader I've ever had. Go in with the expectation of a C.

Tests are the hardest for an annoyingly easy subject and lecture. Mono tone boring power points, horrible instructor.

Comment:
This class was Ichthyology. Dr. Beckman is a great professor. He exams in the class are sometimes very hard and he may tell that some will not be on the exam, but turns out it is, of which may hurt your grade. Just study everything on the slides and you will be fine. Its best to not miss any of his classes.

I took Dr. Beckman for Wildlife Management and Ichthyology. Both classes covered a lot of information, which made the tests a little difficult, but as long as you put the effort into studying, you'll do fine. He's a great teacher!

Comment:
Expect so much information on the powerpoints that you'll be dismayed when it comes time to study because his tests are poorly written and he could write an entire section about something he covered for only 2 minutes. The course is only difficult because of his awful tests. No study guides even though he brags he's taught the class 10+ yrs...

Great guy. Can be a it monotone but you can tell he's a seriously dedicated conservationist. Great personal stories if you can get him to share them.

the subject itself is tough with a lot of material...only gives 3 tests throughout the semester including the final, so it's hard to recover from a bad one...make sure to keep up with the material instead of trying to cram...especially for the lab ID tests

Several whiny spoiled rich girls were criticizing this class, but I thought it was challenging and skillfully taught. Dr. Beckman is a fantastic teacher who is deeply committed to scholarship.
