he teaches as if everyone has seen calculus problems before. i took ap calc in high school, so i am not struggling as much as others. you have a 2 problem quiz every friday thats worth 20 points. He doesnt collect homework, but uses homework problems on his quiz. if you go to office hours he is helpful!

He teaches as if everyone in the class has already taken calculus, so a lot of the freshman had taken calc. in high school and were doing fine, but I have NEVER taken calculus, so I was totally lost. He never explained what things were...he just assumed we already knew. And he was not helpful when I asked him questions. ERRRGH

For Business Calc, it's a really easy class if you do the homework. His lectures explain well IF you are strong in math (sometimes he skips steps so if you struggle, you might get lost). The book clears up any confusion. Was an easy A for me & I had never taken Calc

I would not recommend him for anything above Calculus. He assigns ridiculous homework, with problems that take him 20 minutes or more to go over in class "skipping the messy algebraic manipulation" and, he already knows the material.. in class he just writes confusing examples on the board, he does not teach the material; grades test and quizzes.

Hands down the BEST Calculus professor I've had. I took Math 112 first semester at LMU and failed it, second semester I took Smith and got a B! His class is challenging but he is very understanding, has a fair grading policy, and doesn't get frustrated if you don't understand a concept. HIGHLY recommend him.

Dr. Smith is one of the nicest people I have met in my life. I struggled in his class as math is my worst subject, but I spent a lot of time in his office hours working with him, and he never got impatient reexplaining the material to me. Even though I got C-'s on both the exams, I got the benefit of the doubt in the end with a B in the class.

Nice guy but if you didnt take precalc in highschool like me then i would not recomend taking him. YOUR ENTIRE GRADE REVOLVES AROUND QUIZZES AND TESTS. Don't think you can rely on homework or attendance to boost your grade becuase he doesnt give points for that

Dr. Smith is SO helpful during office hours. I was terrified to take pre-calc but he helped me through it the whole way. A total math geek but a really great one! I give him an A.

Alright kids, I took AP Calc my senior year of high school, and there's going to be a bunch of you like that wanting to shoot yourself on the first day and everyday, because it's so BORING. He is a great guy, real nice, and on the final you get to have a "cheat sheet", BUT his lectures make NO sense, there's quizzes every Friday, and no hw due.

Cool dude. Lecture isnt really needed, cause you will always look at the book for help. Collects hw though so we need to go to class. Helpful with going over hw's. Weekly quizzes, 2 midterms and a final. Pretty good math teacher. Doesnt waste time, just gets right to the point.

I loved Dr. Smith, he was a bit confusing when giving lectures in class. If you don't like reviewing material, you wont do good in this class. But, hello, that's what office hours are for. He's a great guy, and that makes his class even better to be in.
