Comment:
Worst prof in my collegiate career. He thinks he knows everything and cannot possibly consider an opinion outside of his own. He is completely unable to see beyond his own views and is unwilling to listen when additional perspectives are introduced. He makes things infinitely more difficult than they need to be. Absolutely terrible.

Great teacher, he is really nice and easy to talk to. The only teacher who was understanding and allowed me to make up course work, with no penalty, when I had an aneurysm during the semester. Would absolutely take another class with him.

David is a great teacher, you can tell his is super passionate about the subject matter. I love how he sometimes would bring a psychology perspective into some of the discussions.

Comment:
David writes down when you talk in class. He doesn't say he expects certain things but then factors them into participation. He gives 5 pop-quizzes which aren't hard at all. This class was extremely boring. Studying India was interesting and then 23 of course is spent on Tibet. annoying. He doesn't turn back things quickly. Not a great teacher.

Comment:
Dr. Schmit is a great teacher. However, I think his gifts are wasted on undergraduates. His intellect and expectations for his course would much better suit graduate students who want to learn the material, not just position themselves for a grade. I'd love to have him with truly engaged students. It would be a great experience.

Comment:
This prof has a reputation for having an unengaging class and being unpleasant to students. Schmit initially came off as snobbish. But then he gave out enough extra credit to make the class an automatic B. He says he grades hard but then is lenient. He gave some ppl As where they didn't desrve it. Respects hard work Does spontaneous essays in class

Comment:
Lectures were engaging. Large group discussions also engaging. Schmit had a way of putting some students on the spot. One person in our class inadvertently made some "comments" and the following day there was a group therapy session about it. Rediculous. We had pop quizzes one of which was dropped but there were still pop quizes in a SEMINAR class

Lectures and tests didn't match at all - it was hard to know what to study. Uses EVERY minute of class time. Blech. Attendance was very important because there were lots of in-class activities worth points that you couldn't make up.
