It's actually a good class. The college athletics subject matter is better than most UWs, and while he can be fairly frustrating with his devils advocate act, you end up enjoying the class and he is an easy grader as long As you participate in class. Good professor!

I actually thought my writing improved a lot because of this class. I also found the discussions interesting.

Got a B in the class, but didnt get any grade or feedback for a 10-12 page research paper, the major paper which was worth 35% of our final grade! How does this make me a better writer? Not a difficult class, but an A requires lots of extra effort. Doesn't seem that concerned about improving your writing skills, could definitely show more interest.

Classes are devoted to discussion of readings and are interesting, but not helpful. He is overly concerned with the writing process. But when it comes to papers and assignments, he is vague on expectations and does not give helpful feedback on your work. The only way to develop your writing is to see him outside of class and scheduled peer review.

Dave was a great writing professor and the section he taught was really interesting (college athletics). There were points during discussion where he did play devil's advocate a lot, but it was to help you think critically as a writer. Overall, he knows what is a successful college paper and is willing to help; gives great feedback.

He was a really good teacher. The nightly readings were really interesting and he didn't assign to much. Only like 3 papers which is great and he gives you a lot of time. Highly recommended

He doesn't care what you say, if you do not agree with him YOU ARE WRONG. This goes for your papers as well as in class discussions. A very pompous man, would not recommend taking his UW, as he will not help you become a better writer. The only thing he will do is make you a writer who fits his criteria.

Avoid his UW at all costs. He does not help your writing at all, and he should probably stick to teaching philosophy. He has no idea what he is doing. His grading is completely random.

i had truncellito my freshman year for a philosophy course, and it was one of the more worthwhile and challenging courses i've taken. he is engaging, intelligent, and incredibly caring. i am still in touch with him--he wrote me a recommendation for my study abroad program this past spring. i don't know about UW but he was great for me! nice man

Note that GWU now makes ratings available at my.gwu.edu -- those are a much better indicator of a professor's teaching than the information available here.

If you want a professor who thinks he knows everything but actually doesn't. If you want a professor who has an attitude problem. If you like a professor who will talk to you in a condescending manner, because he probably got made fun of all the time. And much much more fun stuff waiting for you. Just sign up!

if you are a good writer, do not expect anything from dave's uw 20 class. i promise, you will learn nothing. furthermore, he spends SO much time talking about written arguments and so little time talking about the subject matter of the class. basically, just a waste of time. make it worth your while, and take someone who will grade you fairly.

It's not much of a challenge and didn't improve my writing at all. The readings were many and got to be tedious. Class discussions were very good, the seldom ones we had. Don't take this class if you're looking to improve your writing. However, if you already write well it's an easy A. Just makes sure to participate on blackboard.

He is unclear in his expectations and doesn't offer valuable feedback, because he does not actually read your paper before giving you critique. We spent more time in class arguing then learning how to write. We never had a writing lesson. In his class be sure to stick to the mold and avoid creative paper topics, he doesn't respond well to them.

DAVE TRUNCELLITO ROCKS. He is a wealth of knowledge and information, and really wants you to become a better writer. The Many Faces of Religion is hands down the best UW20 class. Everything I hear about others is horrorific and this one is GREAT. Fair amount of work and reading to keep you busy. I would rearrange my whole schedule to fit this class

Very clear and as nice as they come. I personally missed a good amount of class and when I did attend I dodnt really know what was going on. That said, I tought the class to my self with the help of the CD ROm that came with the book. Little cartoon characters taught me everything i needed to know and I aced the final.
