Would not recommend taking an anthropology course with Professor Velez. Her lectures are boring and based entirely on videos, and she makes class discussion very one-sided where it is difficult to participate if your opinion is different from hers. Never needed to take notes in class or even opened a book, midterm and final were far too difficult.

She has a very strong personality which is perfectly fine except it comes off as a complete disregard and disrespect for her students. I've seen students who are actually very engaged with her get sassed and scolded. Also she is very movie heavy. I think movies are a great supplement but if that is the only info provided they lead to a biased class

I have taken two of her classes and really enjoy her as a professor and a person. Her classes are very easy as long as you participate in discussion and go over the page limit on the papers. She's very real and her class (in my opinion) is an easy A while being very enjoyable. I always looked forward to going to her class.

Genuinely the most passionate professor I've ever had. Her course is easy and so centered on intersectionality. If you have a chance ask her about her life, her stories are interesting and she's always willing to share.

She's outstanding!! Cares about the future of her students and really encourages us to always be, think and do better. She's doesn't really care for academia but likes when you participate. The course is deeply embedded in intersectionality and if you have any interest in politics or activism you'll absolutely adore Denise as a professor!!!

This class was a joke. She is very nice & helpful, but seems entitled & prefers ppl who are more cultured than others. Her papers are quantity over quality- so if you write a lengthy paper you will get a good grade. I was interested in the topic before, but the class was terrible. I didn't learn anything at all & it was a waste of time, but easy A.

Denise's class was really easy. There are some large papers due but overall they are rather easy. Always write more than the minimum! two pages more than the min practically guarantees you an A. She has her own opinions and is not afraid to voice them, which could be annoying at times. Overall the class was more of a social talk, which was fine.

The class was more interesting than I thought it would be. You must do online quizzes which count for a minimal percent of your grade and 3 decent size paper and one term paper if you do well on those you well in the class. Pretty straight forward. I'd say take her, no major complaints.

Second class with Denise. My favorite professor and I like to think I am one of her favs. Knows a lot of stuff, but isn't annoying with the info. Relays info to students in a helpful manner. The class can be a bore, but it is an easy A. There were quite a few papers, but I prefer that over test. The final paper is 15 pages but hey I got it done.

cultural anthro- I was not at all interested before this class in anthropology but found it quite interesting. In class she lays out her expectations for the papers in detail. Some of the papers are long but she is an extremely easy grader. Her lectures are funny and never boring. This is an easy A class if you don't mind two long papers.

I love Denise, I demand to take another class with her or else! The class was super interesting and she is hilarious. She is willing to hear what her students have to say. She loves engaged students and I was one. I looked forward to this class, I wished it was my only class all semester. She was realstic and was cool.

Best class and best professor ever. She is such a cool and inspiring professor...she knows so much about everything and presents it well. Not a hard class and the subject material is very interesting..I definitely recommend her. She is my shero!

Denise definitely knows a lot about the field, and has a lot of interesting things to tell you about. However, her class is very unstructured, and she is very unclear about her expectations. You will learn a lot, but it will mostly be in doing your own research. There is a short paper, an ethnographic interview, and a 15 pg final research paper.

Love Denise, have taken three classes with her she inspired me to start up with anthropology. she does get a little redundant and scatterbrained by the third class but sticking with one or two her peppy attitude makes it fun to come to class. easy easy grader have gotten an A in every class

cultural anthropology: her work sounds difficult, but she just kind of lays things out. she is very well rounded for the job (as through her stories of her experiences)I find her work fascinating and if you put effort in you will do fine. overall a good teacher =]
