I took this class online, in 7 week course. It was a ton of reading and we had to post a discussion every MWF. It was crazy hard to keep up on the reading and writing. The professor is nice. He is not organized but he is helpful.

My complaint I had with this class was that the due dates of assignments would be extended a few days. If you don't work and have a light school load than this is probably great. If you have to endure this class, check the syllabus all of the time! BTW don't count on getting a lot of comfort from him. If this is a requirement for you good luck!

Comment:
Don't take this course if you don't have to and if you're not interested in literary theory. It is extremely dry and boring. Unfortunately, Dr. Wertheimer and his TAs are not very helpful when it comes to explaining the extremely dense material. For the most part, you're expected to figure things out for yourself.

One of the most caring professors you will ever meet. Took an online class & reading is very heavy in theory (some of it rather difficult to understand), but he does the best he can to help you if you just ask. Lecture notes are useful.Tough grader; he's really looking for deep, thorough responses.

The class discussions make each topic more interesting and he tries to focus the class in having online discussions. The only thing I didn't like was assignments were due on TUES/THURS which means if you have all T-Th classes (which I did) then there's no flexibility, which really defeated my purpose of taking an online class.

Great online professor. He actually engages his students in real discussions which become the meat and soul of the course. He is always there to answer questions and even has a sense of humor.

Took the class online, but don't be fooled into think it's easier because it's not face-to-face. Heavy in writing via blackboard and lots of readings on theory. I enjoyed the class, but it was a challenge. Eric can be scatter-brained at times, but he is very helpful and quick to respond. He is both passionate and knowledgeable on this subject.

One of my all-time favorite classes. He is one of the best professors, not only at ASU but ever. The class is an online theory class, not an easy subject for some and he makes it comprehensible and fun! You have to read and study, but readings are manageable. Class atmosphere (discussion board) is remarkable.

Incredibly awesome guy. Very interesting and insightful. Not the best at communicating inside or outside of class. Seems to genuinely enjoy his students and his subject, but isn't the best at keeping things organized.

One of the most brilliant academics in the country. Focuses on 19th century American Lit, and loves ****inson. He is intelligent, but the longer he teaches, the less he focuses on teaching, and students. Never opens his door. Never available outside of class. Rarely returns emails. Spends most of his time researching and writing. Great otherwise

I'm in Eric's online class this semester. Compared to my incredibly incompetent British Lit professor, Eric is a breath of fresh air. His approach is to allow the students to read the material and then provide an analytical response in an online forum. He teaches what he tests and tests what he teaches. Freaking awesome.

At first I was overwhelmed by the difficulty of the class. He expects a lot from his students. However he is a very helpful teacher. Went I would come to his office he went out of the way to really help me. He expects you to do all the reading, so don't try to get away with not doing the reading. He is one of the hotest male professors!!

I've taken many of his classes. He's a truly inspiring presence in the classroom and was extremely helpful outside of the classroom as well. I would recommend him to each and every student at that campus.

I've had this professor a few times, and hope to have him again - he's extremely helpful and knowledgable about the material, and while his classes are hard, his grading is fair and he goes out of his way to help if he thinks the class is having trouble. Highly reccomend his classes.

Lit Crit is difficult to begin with, and Eric's huge vocabulary doesn't help much in making it clear. Sometimes he lets slip with his un-academic side, and he's funny as heck. All of his classes refer often to readings students may not have read, and the workload is huge. Love him anyway!

I had this teacher for two semesters. His large vocabulary and loquaciousness took some getting used to, but he didn't come across as arrogant to me. A pleasant teacher, and very intelligent! If you apply yourself in his classes, believe me, you will LEARN!

Teacher is not available outside of class, but in extreme rare occassions. An "air" about him that he would rather being doing his research and teaching gets in the way of job happiness; however, highly present in classroom. Could be a GREAT te

Dr. W is intelligent and pleasant, but he doles out assignments as if it were your only class; the workload is excessive to the point of being overwhelming.
