I had good fortune of learning under Gene during 1998 and 2002. His approach to teaching and lab exercises was profound. Even his talk about day to day matters during the classes was very enlightening. I hold him in high esteem. Would love to attend his future courses, but he did not seem to teach that often nowadays..

my personal experience is that gene is helpful and knowledgable. has a very silly sense of humor and in fact makes a point not to drone on & on. if you take notes from lectures, you will do fine on the quizzes, as they come DIRECTLY from lectures. if you have questions ask-he will answer-even if it is for a quiz or exam. he retires after spring ter

Gene is NOT helpful he drones on and on and on about wikipedia and makes you watch him surf the net for endless hours this would be fine if he didn't then test you on mathematic equations not covered at any point in class... he loves the sound of his own voice and is completely unapproachable. he is not the only one who wishes he would retire soon.

I really like Gene, but not good for online classes. Gives lots of useful info during class that is not in book. You will need book, despite what he says. He believes people learn best by doing, so doesn't give line by line instructions for assignments. If you need that, take the class with Sue Norris instead.

I was really looking forward to having this instructor after seeing previous reviews, but there was zero communication from him after Week 3 (in which he informed us he was having trouble with Blackboard) and it turned into a self-taught class. There were several postings on the board begging him to respond and... nothing. Very disappointing.

Class wasn't easy with instructor Vershum. He's difficult to find for help and refuses to answer his e-mail! A week after end of term and still no posted grades! He's close to retiring and doesn't care. Maybe has good heart but not good at teaching. Class was more difficult than expected. You will need strong computer background prior to his class!

Online class. Gene never once responded to anyone's emails or discussion board postings. He didn't update the online classroom on a regular basis with our assignments and claimed to have issues with the software--and he's a computer instructor! Least interactive class I've ever taken. Very frustrating. Topics were interesting, though.

By far, the most laid-back teacher ever had. Got an easy A. Do the projects and quizes and you'll be fine. Attendance not necessary. He did care if we surfed the web or turned in assignments late. He just wanted them done in a 'timely manner' which I think meant by the end of the term. Quizes were mostly matching and were open booknotes/internet.

he is very nice teacher.just do the quizzes,which are mostly open book,& you'll get an A.sometime he's not very clear though,u have to really listen to him,what he's saying.whatever he says is in his quiz.get some "NODOZ" with u in his class.

Gene is a really funny guy so lecures weren't terrible to listen to. And as previous graders have mentioned the quizes are open book,notes,web,so they are pretty easy. Fun class! You should take it!

His explanation was always clear, and he was always patient. He also had a fine sense of humor. His questions in quizez can be a little difficult, but it was because open-book and open-Web pages.

Gene is an amazing teacher. His style is encouraging learning through exploration rather than rote memorization. He also has a great sense of humor if you can appreciate dry wit and are paying attention. I highly recommend taking his class.

Easy class if you do the assignments although it is very basic. Good Instructor that lets you work at your own pace on the assignments. Don't take if you're one to put off all your work until the last week of class. Highly Recommeded.
