By far the most boring lecturer in the department. Good news is the class is a joke. Most of the grade comes from attending field/cad labs. Exams are easy, I never went to class+open book. If you can an exam fromt the past years, they're almost the same. doesn't take anytime out of the classroom so u'll be fine. just super boring.good luck

After single handedly surveying Mt. Everest, Shufran earned a full-time teaching position at Penn State. In his free time he founded a full-service Professional Land Surveying business. He has since cooked the books on his way to becoming one of the most respected and clueless surveyors in the US. Rumor has it that he's a great fighter and gangsta'

Comment:

Saw him get into a scrap with an IT guy in the CADD lab -- knocked his ass right out. Don't mess with Shufran. His slight build can be deceiving. Pros as a prof: good fighter. Cons: he's bad with simple math and always says "cook the books" for no apparent reason. Labs are a joke.

By far the most worthless CE course I've taken. I thought it would be kinda cool to learn how to survey, but its tedious and the weather sucks most of the time. As for the class, don't bother going. Tests are open notes/book, but I didn't even buy a book. It was about as useful as the class. I still don't know how to survey.

He is a certified PLS (licensed surveyor), and knows his stuff really well. He just can't convey it to the students at all. Do all your work and you should get an A.

If you're taking 310, you don't have a choice of which professor you get. This class is very laid back, lectures are not important, and labs are somewhat interesting. His rating is average, but 75% of the grades come from the TA's anyway.

The class is easy and you get to use the book and everything when taking a test. But the teacher is really annoying, not only can he not teach, but his voice is soo annoying. He seems to talk about useless crap that doesnt make any sense. Good class to go to sleep in.

Dr. Shufran is a complete idiot, he makes more mistakes on a daily basis than anyone else at this school. The course was very easy so an A is not hard to achieve, its the proffesor that really makes this course frustrating.

The class is easy and questions do get dropped, but only because shufran puts multiple right answers on the test and doesnt realize it at the time. Horrible teacher.

Surveying is easy, but also confusing at times. Just do what you have to do, and a lot of the exam questions get dropped anyway -- giving you a pretty good grade.
