It's a different kind of class in college, but it keeps you interested. you have to participate tho, so its not for everyone. have 4 essays, 2/3 quizzes and a final. prepare for tests, write well for essays and should be easy; also gives extra credit.

This class was so much fun! The only test was the final and everything you needed to know for it was on the review sheet. The 4 papers required are completely based on what you do in class. It's definitely not a traditional history class. There is a lot of public speaking and it's all group-based. I loved this class and would surely take her again.

Big on the Reacting to the Past games, we reenacted the Galileo trial and the French Revolution. It's a bit awkward in the beginning because not everyone knows each other well, it gets fun by the second game and the 2 or 3 quizzes are straight forward and easy. The essays are in first person and we did a newspaper, which was pretty awesome.

At first I hated her class because it isn't real history. However, I gave her a chance and ended up loving it.

The quizzes were tough, PARTICIPATE AND DO THE PAPERS, study and do well on the final, you will most likely get an A if you do these things.

good teacher, the games get a little intense...more acting involved in a history class that you would think possible. Quizzes weren't so easy but homeworks are straight forward and she gives you material for final

Very nice and helpful teacher, a lot of public speaking more than i was looking for but she made it easy and she didn't demand perfection. Quizzes were tough but the papers and participation as well as attendance is a definite grade booster or her specifically. Solid teacher and i would take her again in the future.

Gaudette, with Prof. Jordan, are the uninspiring gatekeepers for Liberal Studies Master's Program (MALS 700 & 701). Because of them, many students drop out of what could be a really interesting program. In both courses, we started with about 15 students and ended up with 6 or 7. No lecture and she has students leading the class discussions.

attendance and participation is a biggg part. i got a b+ but i didnt participate much, just a bit. I did well in the final, study your ass off for that. if you like public speaking then take this class b.c it requires a lot of speaking and debating. and she gives a couple papers. make sure they fulfill the length requirement. but yeah she was okay.

i never cared for european history, but i didn't think i'd ever walk out of a class despising it. her lectures are all over the place and she has to read off notes, but she's into the reacting to the past games, which are an absolute waste of time...we spent more time this semester on charles darwin receiving a medal(a month)than WW2 (ONE DAY?!)

She is a terrible teacher. She even has to read off notes when she lectures. Her class consists of students arguing while she sits in the front w/ a blank stare. She will take off 1/2 a grade for forgetting a works cited in her essays which were a waste of time. You have to participate or you will fail. It was dreadful. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS.

Personally, the work is not too difficult. But there is high engagement/low yield for the kind of effort you are expected to put into the class; i.e. lots of regurgitated content in a paper, parroting back 60+ pgs of text. The final includes essays and short answer, even though the class is about creative engagement of history. The logic fails me.

Very fun class if you get into it. She takes her work very seriously, so show up to every class. Although reacting to the past is weird, there is no question that she knows what she's teaching, and what she's doing.

its a reacting class so its TOTALLY different than what you're used to, basically you do everything and the professor does NOTHING! i got bad roles and i dont think she liked me very much. since its an honors class you cant really get out of it, so as long as you do the assignments and speak up in class every once in a while then you'll be ok.

She is GREAT! She is soooo nice and I LOVED her class. The reacting games are fun & interesting. You do have to go up and speak once in a while, but no biggie. We had 4 5-pg papers that weren't difficult, a couple of easy quizzes, and a midterm and final that are good if you study. TAKE HER! You'll love her! I got an A, btw.

Reacting Class; Must speak at every class pretty much & sometimes your role sucks. However, as long as you say your piece&participate youre ok. 2 writing assignments per game (3 games in all)& a final. Fair grading&the class itself can get really intense. really nice lady. DO NOT BE THE BRITISH GOVERNORS GENERAL IN THE INDIA GAME.

I've taken two Reacting courses with Prof Gaudette, and I adore her. She's one of the nicest people I've ever met, and believe me, she understands what college students go through. She wants you to learn. If you do the work and focus in class, you'll do really well. And she's always willing to give you a good recommendation. One of my favorites!!!!
