He tried to make the class into something it was not and therefore failed to achieve the purpose of the class (to improve students writing). His feedback was geared towards a "thinking course" and not a writing course. I would enjoy classes with that objective but that wasn't the point of this course. Avoid him at all costs.

This teacher is absolutely terrible. No matter how hard you try and work on your writing he will give you BAD GRADES. Do not take his section of UCWR is you want to keep your GPA up. This is a freshman writing course...it should be fairly easy like the other sections. THOROUGHLY DISAPPOINTED

Our UCWR teacher had a personal emergency and quit in the middle of the semester, and Jack Sigel took her place. At the start I really didn't like him, but over the past few weeks he has grown on me. If you participate in class, you will be interested and learn. All the people who say he grades hard must be unable to write without run-on sentences.

Absolutely terrible teacher. Avoid him like the plague if you vale your GPA. Impossible to get A's on his papers. The instructions for the papers are vague. No matter how much effort you put into your paper, it will never be good enough. AVOID HIM.

He is kind of boring to listen too especially when he does this thing with his tongue. Do all he asks for, come to his office hours and try to smile. Was an awful class with a bumbling dull teacher. Assignmwnts so absurd and unclear you can't even use outside sources to back up points on papers! Same people will dominate class is so lazy can't even make up lecture for class instead has us bring 1 quest. to class to discuss! STAY AWAY!!

Professor Sigel is horrible. My paper grades were inconsistent with the level of work I put into them. To get an A in his class, one would have to be impossible. He puts the entire class to sleep. He pauses for long periods of time during his lectures for no apparent reason. Unclear assignments

SO BORING! Love Shakespeare & theatre, but HATE this class. Knowledgeable teacher, but never answers questions, just asks more questions. Class discussions terrible, going to class is pointless, except that you can only miss 4. Extremely hard grader, I was lucky to get a B.

Well, he is boring and loves to divulge in tangents. However, I discovered if you schmooze a little bit with him in office hours, you won't go unrewarded. The structure of the class is something remiss, there is too much ignorance and laziness for a good class discussion.

Nice guy, but bad teacher. Knows a lot about Shakespeare, but doesn't teach any of it. Very boring. Not a lot of work, but the papers you do write must be exactly what he wants to hear. Don't take him.

He is an overall nice and intelligent. However, when it comes to being a professor he is terrible! He grades papers very unfairly, unless of course you are a theater nut like him! Stay away from this course it will be one your wisest decisons at Loyola!
