One of my favorite professors at UT. This class was difficult and NOT an easy A. There was a lot of reading required. The lectures were really hard to follow at times, but he gave out study guides which were helpful. I ended up working his his lab for 2 semesters too! If you want to challenge yourself and learn something, take a class with Malone.

The only way you pass this class is if you go in and make a good impression on this professor. It doesn't matter if you get good grades on assignments; there is no grading structure to this class, the material is incoherent, and the only thing that matters is whether or not he likes you personally. Difficult to like him, however.

Great sense of humor unless you are sensitive to certain things. The exams are insanely difficult even if you've studied because the study guide doesn't help at all. Honestly it's pretty disorganized and hard to understand. I love the guy but it's a difficult class.

Dr. Malone is one of the worst professors I have taken at UT. His lectures consist of him rambling and there is no syllabus or clear grading system. He randomly gives verbal quizzes that are confusing and then talks disruptively during them. When he returns graded quizzes he reads student's responses to the class out loud and then makes comments.

Dr. Malone is an excellent professor. Very smart, a little disorganized, but he makes up for that by being more than willing to help you if needed. This is a great class-by far the most challenging, but most interesting class I've ever taken. Three exams, he gives you study guides to use before each exam. And he will let you make up exams.

Sweet man with good intentions. Willing to help his students if students are willing to ask. Will give you multiple chances to retake exams for a better grade. His exams are rough (open-ended questions, 30 short answer). Lectures are the definition of disorganized. Mostly rambling about unrelated topics (ex: Jewish physicists and jumping spiders).

He is a nice and smart guy, however he does not know how to simplify things to make them teachable. So he just starts rambling about minute details to the point that you have no idea what he is talking about. He is very disorganized, his powerpoints are useless because they are just random words to help remind him what he is talking about.

Funny & nice, not the best teacher. Rambles alot. 3 exams (30 short answer Qs & with about a sentence or two written on each) pretty difficult if you don't study. He gives quizzes almost every day, but you can use your notes. If you're a good student, you'll do great. If you're a mediocre student, ya know. No book, he puts it online. GO TO CLASS!

Not an angry complaint from a failing student. Worst professor I have had at UTK. Incoherent lectures and powerpoint slides, never clear what will be on the exam, quiz questions are given verbally, difficult to understand, doesn't invite student opinions or believe what he thinks could be wrong, starts class late but expects students to stay lat

Malone is a very eccentric and unique professor; attending class regularly will go a long way to ensuring a good grade. A background in philosophy will go a long way.

The worst class I've ever taken. He babbles so much about nothing about what we are learning, and even in german at times. He makes it so hard to understand material that is not hard material to grasp, but his tests are impossible. NOT EASY!

Nice guy. Subject matter difficult to grasp. He babbled alot never really knowing what he was speaking about. He understands material explicitly however has issues putting it otherwise. A great deal of time and effort are necessary to do just average in his class. He is lenient in areas. Def not an easy A.

I still don't understand haft the stuff that he went over. Lectures are confusing, and nonspecific, notes are not very helpful and very vague, and the book is the dryest thing I've ever read. The class is all over the place, and almost everyone I talked to who I took the class with has learned...NOTHING! Nice guy, but if you wantr A's, run away.

This teacher is crazy. His lectures and powerpoints make no sense at all and he jumps all over the place. He is interesting and funny but his class is total garbage. To even remotely know what he is talking about, go to class and write down everything he says and fill out the study guides he gives.

Somehow I got the highest grade in Malone's class. To this day I have no idea how. I'd do his study guides the night before the exams and still have to bs about half the short answer questions on the test b/c they weren't on it. This seems to be the key, as his notes are just about the least helpful thing ever. Intelligent guy but very aloof.

Difficult class at first. However if you actually goto class and pay attention to when he IS talking about the lesson, then everything will work out fine for you. He does ramble sometimes but is absolutely hilarious in these moments. He curves the grade a ridculous amount at the end of the semester, it really is absurd. One of my fave's at UT.

This guy is a joke- he rambles on through class and rarely provides helpful information. For the tests you must study the books to fill out the study guide as notes are nothing but sentence fragments. He takes random attendance but it does not help your grade much. This is not a polarized rating- do not take him- waste of time and ungenerous grade!

Rambles during lecture, you use the texts to fill out the study guide, you won't know if the answers are right or not and will just have to go with what you think on the tests, i got a rare B, super nice teacher, will get to know everyone in the class, good luck with the james text - it was written in the 1890s
