Comment:

Great professor, even better advisor, always answers emails within the hour, and I email him at least once a day. Lectures can get tangental, but always a good time. Easy grader as long as you give him everything he wants in a paper (i.e. cite every source he lists). Overall super funny guy.

Comment:

Nice enough man but don't underestimate the class. Everyone ends up with an A or B, but to get the A you have to go above and beyond what he asks. The two blogs entries basically determine your grade so go beyond the required 900 words (drafts are due every week). Class gets kind of boring, but you aren't required to do much.

Van Buren is great, don't be afraid of the syllabus because it is really intimidating but he's actually really chill and understanding. He gives weekly blog posts of 1000 words or more with a lot of reading but as long you keep up with the assignments , come to class, and participate you will get an a. He's also really accessible out of class

He's really quirky and funny and seems like he would not be a very accessible teacher, but he's honestly the best. He'll work with you to make sure you have everything you need to make sure you graduate on time, willing to make exceptions, etc. Weekly essays, no midterm/final, super easy A. Great teacher and even better advisor.

Comment:

Van Buren is a real character. Even though the workload is heavy, it's not necessarily hard work - the hardest part of the blogs is always just taking the time to churn them out. He's hilarious in his own strange way. Class is pretty relaxed, highly discussion based. Do the blogs, participate, and getting an A shouldn't be a problem.

Van Buren is hilarious. The class is super interesting and insightful. Just if you take this class make sure you get into class discussion and spend a lot of time on the blog entries (2 big ones due) and you will do fine. The kids who did terrible were the ones who sat there and did nothing.

Definitely one of the easiest teachers. Take home midterm and final and a few additional assignments. You only write on one philosophy for each exam so you can skip most of the readings. However class is very boring and he just mumbles on about random stuff. Not bad for a senior values course, but there are probably better

Amazing. He has a dry, out-there sense of humor, but I had a great time in his class. He isn't a tough grader at all, and his midterm and final are basically the same so if you do well on one you can use it to do well on the other. Sometimes class lectures get boring, but he is aware and does what he can to lighten it up. Take him!

Ratings that say easy r misleading. Yes there r no papers/quizzes etc, just midterm/final. U need to not just know the material but apply it, which is fine except the way exams r phrased r confusing. If u like the topic and dont mind abstract profs, take him. But if u need structure and want to get an A, trust me he's not that easy. Nice guy though

This class was the biggest joke ever! He showed up for prob 65% of the classes and during those times he spends an hour and ten minutes rambling on about one students question. We got our first grade TWO WEEKS before classes ended. He is easy though. A good teacher? Who knows. NO WORK REQUIRED.

This guy is the best when it comes to teaching his material...waters down the works of some philosophers. Very few journals to worry about and some reading to do...Overall, someone I would recommend for Ethics

He's an awesome teacher, really quirky and strange, but definitly entertaining. Not too much work, and you can get by if you don't do all the readings. I always looked forward to going to this class, and I would take him again in a heartbeat!
