Comment:
Grades are determined mostly by problem sets and tests. The material he talks about in class is what shows up on them. If you come to class and take good notes, you will do perfectly fine in the class. The textbook is good if you need to read on something you don't understand, but not necessary. I enjoyed this class and would take Stewart again.

Prof Stewart is a great professor. Although the tests are only a few questions, you need to make sure you understand the concepts. The class grade is only made up of 6 problem sets, 2 midterms, and the final, so there isn't a lot to work with. He didn't include a grading scale in the syllabus but its based on the class average in the end.

He really takes the time to make sure that everyone understands the material. He mostly teaches through examples and getting into groups to talk things over.

Professor Stewart is the best professor I've ever had at UNC. His lectures are very engaging and interesting, and he always manages to incorporate something fun like a video of an erupting volcano. Tests are easy as long as you study and come to lectures. He's very friendly and is always up to talk and discuss any questions you may have.

Professor Stewart was by far one of the best professors I have had at UNC. While he pretty much only lectures with few power point guidance, he makes the lectures interesting and easy to follow. I took this class for a science credit and was dreading it but it ended up being really interesting. If you go to lecture you will get a good grade!

Comment:
Yes, he is a good prof who naturally charms a room and makes lectures engaging. However, as semester progressed, started to feel like he really didn't care for his students - gets TA to mark everything, randomly leaves class for water, ends class early if he gets bored... I would take again because his classes are easy but... not inspirational.

Eh, it's not that his class is hard - more like if you don't know all in-depth details of the lecture, you won't pass any exams. Very nitpicky grader. A tiny mistake can get you up to 8 points off like miswriting a number on a problem set - you get minus one or 12/13 - already a 92. You can be lucky or unlucky as he oftentimes messes up on grading.

Kevin is genuinely one of the best teachers I have ever had, he so obviously cared about both the subject matter and his students. This class was my favorite I have ever taken, and I gained so much knowledge and experience because of it. He made sure we were comfortable and understanding everything that was going on in class! I'm his biggest fan.

Professor Stewart is one of the best professors I have ever had. His classes are engaging and he genuinely cares about his students so much. As long as you come to class everyday and take good notes you should do great in this class! Also, Geology 221 is a great introduction to field geology if that is something you are curious about.

Dr. Stewart is hands down the best professor I've had at Carolina. His class is fun and his lectures are engaging and I genuinely enjoy going to class every day. He's extremely accessible outside of class and is extremely helpful. While you definitely have to go to class every day, his exams are straightforward and his expectations of you are clear

Dr. Stewart is the best! He is not only genuinely concerned with you as a student but as a person as well. I have taken two of his classes and he never ceases to make everyone laugh or smile each period. His teaching method is clear, concise, and easy to follow. If ever you need assistance, he is very helpful in office hours. I highly recommend!

Don't get me wrong, you definatly have to show up to Kevin's lectures, but he is so obviously passionate about what he is talking about. His office hours are very helpful, and he is very precise and knowledgable about the things he talks about. Overall one of the best professors I've ever had at Chapel Hill.

Geology 200 was a new class this semester, but it wasn't difficult if you attended lectures and paid attention. Dr. Stewart's lectures were always so enthusiastic and inspired, and I thought cohesive and well-planned (considering the class was new). Really cool is that he brought in current science to add depth to the material.

Comment:
To be fair GEOL 200 is a new class, which was obvious by how disjointed it seemed. Tests were structured in a way that if you didn't know everything in depth, you would surely fail. There should be pre-requisites for this class, as not everyone has the periodic table memorized. Only take if you are a hard sciences major.

I wish I could select more tags to describe K-Stew; he deserves every positive one there is. No other professor is as passionate and inspiring as Dr. Stewart, especially for the level of care he puts into his lectures. As long as you pay attention to him, you will learn everything you are expected to with ease, and then some. Best professor ever!

He worked really hard to make sure that everyone understood the topics discussed & always left room for student questions before exams. Exams were all 8-10 short answer questions that asked for specific things discussed in lectures. Make sure you read the required readings and pay attention and you'll be fine. Great professor and person!

Love Dr. Stewart! Unfortunately, a lot of personal problems made me miss class a lot; wish I would have gone to more of his lectures because he's an awesome professor. Exams are straight-forward and generally from what is talked about in class, so don't skip a lot. Wish I could take another class with him because he gives great lectures.
