Comment:
Prof French is extremely knowledgeable about ochem, however no matter who you have as a prof, this class is going to be HARD. He gives you all the information you need, but you NEED to do the practice/study problems and understand why you're doing what you're doing. Don't try to memorize. He is very fair in what he expects from quizzes/tests.

Comment:
One of the most bland, boring professors ever. Lectures drag on and on but they're still not helpful without further reading/practice. Orgo is a very hard class and you need to put in the work and stay on top of things to do well. It's like learning another language, you only improve by doing it. Only one who teaches 222 so get used to Larry.

Dr. French has done this for almost 30 years he knows what he is doing. However like a lot of professors he is very quirky and awkward which makes communication difficult at times. Dr. French is really just a nice guy who is misunderstood.

Comment:
Orgo is an awful class by nature, but Dr. French is not the prof to take it with. Impersonal, rude, hard to communicate with, and an extremely monotonous lecturer, he belongs in a huge lecture hall and not at a school that prides itself on its student to faculty ratio. Extremely smart but can't teach it effectively. Will be retaking w another prof.

Dr. French is the reason I loved Organic Chemistry and his teaching method allowed me to understand it. I was very intimidated of O-Chem before the course. Afterwards I felt a true sense of accomplishment and knowledge. I am fortunate that his teaching style clicked with my learning style, we are still friends today.

A pretty horrible professor. I went in for help and he basically made me want to cry. All through the class I wanted to die of boredom, even though I really wanted to do well in organic chemistry. It got to the point to see how low people got on the exams. I will be retaking this with the other professor.

Excellent teacher for those who want to learn the subject. Read the textbook chapters with notes from class next to you and learning the material isn't that bad. Study hard for exams and you'll do fine.

Comment:
Very impersonal. The book will be your best friend because his lessons are empty without the book deciphering for you. This is a ridiculous subject anyway but having him makes it painful. He's no help in office and quite rude as well. Work as hard as possible and do a lot of background building before every class.

He drops an exam and offers a take home exam which could help your grade. The material is very difficult so alot of time out of class is required. Print out the slides, read the textbook, and do the problem sets.

Wow, this guy is brilliant. Don't try to take notes, print out slides. Buy the problem book, it will be your best friend. Dr. French is a nice guy, the material is hard though. Its like learning a different language.

Organic chemisty is hard by definition. Dr. French is a genius on the subject matter but because of that he is difficult to ask questions to because he can't understand how one wouldn't know the answer. Out of all the organic professors though, he is probably the best one to have. Its the nature of the beast.

He really knows his stuff about organic. Not the most clear and doesn't make eye contact, but if you're interested in the material, he can be fun to listen to. Expect to work hard!

Impossible class, but not really the prof's fault. Second half is especially difficult. But he provides a curve and is somewhat generous with his partial credit. No nice way to put it, this class is horrible, and at least you can laugh at Dr. French sometimes (never with him, though).

Genius of a man but can't interact with students one on one or teach at a level some students need. Very fair and generous with extra credit on the exams, but the course material is extremely difficult. Do the problem sets if you want to do well on the exams and understand the material.
